The first forum I participated in imploded shortly after I joined (in an internal political squabble), and I nearly quit the whole thing. Fortunately I found the original incarnation of The Gauge after giving internet forums (fora?) another chance. That was the version run by Dave (?) with Robin and Shamus and other now-familiar names.
We all know the story of what happened in between, so let me just add my THANKS!! to Mikey and Don for bringing us back to our roots so to speak, and (re)creating the best of The Gauge while leaving the baggage behind.
From a moderator's point of view, this version of The Gauge has to be the absolute best. The members are fantastic, the owners are good guys , and the spammers have not really found us so our job is pretty sweet.
Thanks everyone. Happy Anniversaries 2&10, and Merry Christmas!

I originally joined THE Gauge in 2006 and came over to the NEW Gauge in Dec 2008 with the invitation from Don and Mickey.....Thanks to you all I have grown from enjoying watching Lionel trains run round and round with no scenery to actually track planning a serious N scale layout, learning about trying scenery techniques, taking operations into consideration, and this year trying my hand at serious craftsmen style buildings to even entering one in a contest to surprisingly win 3rd place, a true personal accomplishment considering the level of craftsmanship on this forum. Many of you I have not nor probably ever will actually meet, but feel as if we've been friends forever.....
Thank you for this forum, it has been a blessing.......I LOVE you, Man......uh, would someone please pass me a tissue???

That's the most fun we have here --- Watching modelers learn from each other That's what happened to me after 2000... I started seriously modeling.. Then in 2006, when i bought the Climax, I now run 1:20.3 and have to hand build everything (mostly out of wood).
It's amazing being able to design and build things from scratch and I've been told more than a few times, that my Trestle Bridge looks like it was professionally built and i only "bought it"
A Really great feeling to be told something like that!!!! and i get real satisfaction seeing the wonder in people's eyes, when i tell them that "I built everything but the trains" LOL

I also am incredibly happy with this forum.
until i found the gauge (back before zealot), most railroad forums i belonged to were either overflowing with posts (to the point you couldn't keep up), or died down to a trickle. The gauge is the only consistent forum i've ever belonged to, and I'm happy to say i joined as soon as i was invited. This is a great place, You guys are amazing. No other forum i belong to has ever had the quality of this place.
Lets hope for many more years for the Big Blue!

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

I understand that the folks who make Viagra are having "behind closed doors talks" with GERN up at Corporate Headquarters ...

You know what else is good about the Gauge, the trips. I wish we could have all made the last one, but that one trip to steam town was a lot of fun. Hopefully we can do something like that in the future.

Yeah - that was a lot of fun!!
Hopefully one of these times I'll be able to join. The EBT and Steamtown are two of the RR destinations I'd most like to see south of the border.
