Good one Charlie LOL.
I'm happy they are painting one in PRR Tuscan Red and a Conrail. Like I said it is about time NS joins in with painting Heritage locomotives. Now UP is not the only Class 1 Railroad that will have Heritage units.

These additions to the NS fleet are going to be very expensive for those of us who model modern equipment whenever Kato/Athearn/FVM decides to build them...very, very expensive. Oh well...you only model railroad once!

Why are they doing Conrail?.....I'm sure they have a couple of old Conrail paints floating around the system somewhere.
(Ed)it: Sorry New Haven fans(I'm one also). The consensus on the NHRHTS(New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Society) forum is that NS only operates six miles of ex-NH(ex-Central New England!!!) line between Campbell Hall and Brea, Penn. Hence no NH paint scheme.

Alot of the Conrail units have been repainted or retired Ed. Even at altoona there is barely any blue left around the shops and the dead line. I know they just brought two units out of storage because of needing power. I know that there is only one active Conrail SD40-2 left, it will be getting painted black here soon.

Hate to think how the LIONEL fans feel, as they got a NS Heritage Series last fall, (12 units at about $500 each) - and I don't think the schemes match this data ? Will there now be another collection of correct (12 to 18) locos at a similar price ? Be glad you're in "N" ! Bob C.

I agree: they should have gone with the black and yellow and, for the Southern, the tuxedo scheme (although I guess the Savannah & Atlanta covers that). It would've been nice to see something with the fried egg on it, too, but it's good that NS is finally giving a nod to its lineage.

This is from NSDash9.com. Two more ES44AC's arrive. NS 8098 and 8099 have been delivered from GE and have been added to the active roster: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.nsdash9.com/rosters/8000.html">http://www.nsdash9.com/rosters/8000.html</a><!-- m --> Tentative information is that these are the first two ES44AC's that will be painted as NS heritage units. The 8098 is supposed to be painted as the Conrail heritage unit at Altoona, PA, while the 8099 is supposed to be painted as the Southern heritage unit at Chattanooga, TN. These plans could still change depending upon availability of the paint and lettering supplies needed for the special schemes.

Due to a last minute change of plans the Penn Central heritage unit has been repainted as the CR heritage unit. According to a NS press release, the unit will be kept in this state as an accurate rendition of the early Conrail paint, in several years the unit will be painted in CR blue.
Ok this is just a joke, someone photoshopped the picture, but it sure does look nice.

Attention Everyone: Just spotted ES44AC #8098 tonight in Lilly on it's way to Altoona. She was about the 6th locomotive out of 9 on the train. She was in all primer paint and with in the next couple weeks we should see a brand new conrail unit running the rails.

I wonder if Intermountain got wind and made their own conrail ES44AC variant <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.intermountain-railway.com/ho/html/49754.htm">http://www.intermountain-railway.com/ho/html/49754.htm</a><!-- m -->

Anyone notice the "ghost" PC under the CR on the side? Really early Conrail. Right after the PC's demise.

Yeah Ed. That was airbrushed on by a guy having a little fun. 8099 is in TN for paint, it is being painted in the Southern Paint Scheme.
