Removing factory paint/decal?
#16
I used both 70% and 90% rubbing alcohol and both times I got weak results. I was trying to strip the lettering off of a Athearn boxcar and found out that the 70% did nothing and the 90% worked for the most part (I tried one side with each type). With the 90% though the area where I removed the lettering has left a white haze where the lettering was, and with dish soap and water and a old toothbrush I can't remove it. Now I have faded white swirl marks on the side of a boxcar. I just wanted the herald and roadname gone and to keep the data.

I do know, however, that floor wax stripper will take lettering and paint off very well from Athearn cars. That's what I used when I was stationed in Korea the first time, as we had it in the barracks to strip floors. If you do use that, make sure you use gloves and (if it's not a Athearn car) a old junker car or body first, your results may vary.
