On the road with Doctor Wayne
#1
Hello Everyone---I just got back from a 4 day trip with Doctor Wayne to visit our friends Charlie,Mary and their furkids in East Palestine Ohio.Without a doubt,it was one of the best adventures I've ever been on.I can't thank Charlie and Mary enough for their generous and welcoming hospitality and also to Doctor Wayne for keeping me entertained for the entire trip.I almost forgot---the train action was also pretty good.

And a few more pictures from Charlie and Ed and Wayne's excellent railroad adventure. As best I can recall, this is some of what we saw on Saturday, August 11th:

After waiting for first an eastbound...

...and then a westbound to clear at Leetsdale...

[Image: August2012railfantrip009-6312westboundatLeetsdale.jpg]

...we got our first look at the 765...

[Image: CopyofAugust2012railfantrip011-765eastbo...tsdale.jpg]

...although she was gone in a flash:

[Image: August2012railfantrip012-765eastboundatLeetsdale.jpg]

After grabbing a shot of another eastbound at Leetsdale...

[Image: August2012railfantrip014-9955eastboundatLeetsdale.jpg]

...we headed up to New Brighton, where we saw this eastbound doublestack...

[Image: August2012railfantrip016-7590eastboundatNewBrighton.jpg]

...followed by another...

[Image: August2012railfantrip018-9330eastboundatNewBrighton.jpg]

...and then this one...

[Image: August2012railfantrip020-8013eastboundatNewBrighton.jpg]

...before the 765, heading west, arrived on the scene:

[Image: Copy2ofAugust2012railfantrip021-765westb...ighton.jpg]

While the 765 took her train to Homewood Junction, where it would be turned, this eastbound passed through New Brighton:

[Image: August2012railfantrip024-2766eastboundatNewBrighton.jpg]

Not too much later, 765 returned, putting on a show for the gathered masses...

[Image: August2012railfantrip026-765eastboundatNewBrighton.jpg]

...who had, unfortunately for them, clustered too close to the tracks. The ensuing second-hand smoke should, hopefully, make them a little more safety-conscious next time. Wink Thumbsup

While the Special headed to Conway to detrain her passengers and pick-up new ones, Charlie hustled us back to Leetsdale, where we saw this eastbound...

[Image: August2012railfantrip030-7640eastboundatLeetsdale.jpg]

...then a westbound...

[Image: August2012railfantrip032-2741westboundatLeetsdale.jpg]

...and another eastbound:

[Image: CopyofAugust2012railfantrip035-765eastbo...tsdale.jpg]

As the Special passed, another westbound rolled into town...

We started Sunday at Rochester, pretty-much on our own as a parade of freight passed by.
First up was this westbound...

[Image: August2012railfantrip049-9695westboundatRochester.jpg]

...followed by another...

[Image: August2012railfantrip051-9490westboundatRochester.jpg]

...and another...

[Image: August2012railfantrip054-9855westboundatRochester.jpg]

...then an eastbound...

[Image: August2012railfantrip055-8072eastboundatRochester.jpg]

...another westbound...

[Image: August2012railfantrip057-6796westboundatRochester.jpg]

...and, while it was passing, this eastbound:

[Image: August2012railfantrip061-9375eastboundatRochester.jpg]

...followed by another...

[Image: August2012railfantrip064-2625eastboundatRochester.jpg]

...and another...

[Image: August2012railfantrip066-8467eastboundatRochester.jpg]

...and another...

[Image: August2012railfantrip067-9348eastboundatRochester.jpg]

...and yet another. As you can see, the 765's arrival time must be getting close, as the fans are arriving to have their picture taken. Curse

Just as the star attraction showed up, so did the real foamers. Wallbang At least he's not too close to the tracks. Misngth Misngth (Can I tighten your camera strap for you, Ed?) Icon_lol

Surprisingly, I managed to finally get a shot of the NKP heritage unit without anyone trying to steal the scene:

[Image: CopyofAugust2012railfantrip074-NKP8100we...hester.jpg]

While the bulk of the crowd disappeared almost as quickly as the 765, we stuck around to get a shot of 2605 on another eastbound...

[Image: August2012railfantrip077-2605eastboundatRochester.jpg]

...then headed for a new vantage point atop a nearby road bridge undergoing repairs. It wasn't long before the action resumed, and it's a wonder that the show of exhaust from this westbound didn't draw the tourist crowd back to trackside:

[Image: August2012railfantrip081-9783westboundatRochester.jpg]

[Image: August2012railfantrip082-9783westboundatRochester.jpg]

Not much later, the 765 returned, although it was disappointing to see the show of heavy exhaust for the "fans". At least there was no one to block the view:

[Image: August2012railfantrip087-765eastboundatRochester.jpg]

I even managed to catch the heritage unit again:

[Image: August2012railfantrip090-NKP8100eastboun...hester.jpg]

As we headed to the car, this westbound appeared...

[Image: August2012railfantrip095-951925179652wes...hester.jpg]

...then it was off again to New Brighton, where we caught this eastbound:

[Image: August2012railfantrip098-964196505355eas...ighton.jpg]

After that, we headed of to Milepost 44, but those are photos for a later offering.

Thanks for sharing guys! Looks like it was a well-packed 4 days trip... It's great to see how 765 lose nothing compared to the large diesel accompanying her. 8100 isn't bad too, I like Wayne's shot from abridge, colors are sparkling!
