That's an awesome scheme. I wish that someone could put this paint scheme on models and donate the proceeds to the VA, Wounded Warrior, or some veteran's group. What a collectable. This is one of the reasons why NS is my favorite current class 1 railroad.

Stunning paint job, I agree, there;s a lot of modelers that would gladly buy one knowing that they'd be helping vets in some way.

Perhaps it is just me, I do not like this paint scheme, the main dislike I have on this one is the red roof bit, I like the red pilot thoughl. I would have loved it if they'd done something like the bi-centennial paintschemes of the 70's. Those were tasteful, but patriotic schemes. Or kept this unit blue and black (the blue reminds a bit of Conrail , and would have preferred that red roof blue...)
it is a very noble cause though, so from that perspective I applaude the NS.

You have to understand, here in the USA, red, white and blue together just eludes being patriotic. They needed a touch of red somewhere to complete the scheme. I would be proud to have one of these on my layout regardless of how they painted it, because, as you say, it is a very noble cause. Thumbsup Thumbsup

Yes I agree the red is part of it (in my native Netherlands, it's part of our colours too, as it is in my resident country the UK), hence my suggestion of the bi-centennial colours... but regardless, the idea behind it is great, too many of our countrymen , wether they were US, UK, Dutch or any other country, gave their lives, got wounded, or just spend time fighting hard for something they believed in and wanted to protect. I salute them all!

I have to agree with you on that. If there were some universal way of conveying that in a paint scheme, it would be great.

I agree, I do not like the red roof. I think the blue/black, with the red/white ribbons across the hood, would have sufficed. However, I love this scheme because of what it represents, and applaud NS for doing this, as well as all the other special schemes NS has done.

Note to NS, maybe place the insignia of the 5 branches of military on the long hood? Just a thought.
