NVRR49,

cool stuff.

Found an ho scale printable 55 ton hopper stl file I think it was on thing-averse. any way was trying to print it enlarged to S and shrunk to N, the n scale was almost a success but one little snag caused the extruder to pull the object right off the build platform, will try again Sunday afternoon also will try a S scale and an O scale version later on. I need to wipe down the platform with alcohol and a micro fiber cloth (skin oil is one of the causes of peeling of printed material) Got the build platform releveled, now to get the part to stick to the platform at least till the end of the print Icon_lol

Hope to have some positive results by Wednesday, I work Monday and Tuesday.

Well I found out a few things while messing with the ole 3D printer, I can fit 26 N scale 55 ton hopper bodies on the build platform :? Or I can fit 5 S scale 55 ton Hoppers Big Grin or one O scale 55 ton Hopper. Will get some pics soon maybe by Wednesday of a full consist of 55 ton N scale hoppers(some assembly required Wink ) The hoppers were a shrunken down version of an HO design on thingaverse. 8-) No I am not switching scales just experimenting and pushing the envelope of what can be done with the Makerbot Replicator 2.

Did successfully print 3 55 ton hoppers in n scale will post pics of them after work Monday. Took about an Hour and a half to print 3 n scale hoppers.

I will attempt to do the N scale Hoppers Thursday, I did however get a perfect print the first time on a spaceship design from the thingaverse website it is a Babylon 5 Star fury(earth fighter craft).

OK here is a series of pics of the fresh batch of N scale hoppers right off the MakerBot Replicator 2, next will have to print up some chassis for them. Out of a total of 26 only one was misshapen beyond use 2285_ Icon_lol 2285_

Pool table tops in both HO and O that I designed and 3d printed. Design details and more pictures can be seen here <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://nvrr49.blogspot.com/2014/03/pool-tables-ho-and-o-scale-just-for.html">http://nvrr49.blogspot.com/2014/03/pool ... t-for.html</a><!-- m -->

Nice pool tables,

I think that a good tooth pick would make a nice pool stick for the O scale tables Smile

This is the largest item have printed on my printer, taking over six hours to print. This is based on the Bennington State Bank in Bennington, MN. I thought it was a great size building for a model railroad. Details on the design and construction can be seen at: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://nvrr49.blogspot.com/2014/04/bennington-state-bank-bennigton-mn-in.html">http://nvrr49.blogspot.com/2014/04/benn ... mn-in.html</a><!-- m -->

N scale hoppers are now glued together waiting to be painted and then I will give them to Nephew's soon to be father in law who has N scale layout. He will have to add trucks and couplers Icon_lol The next step will to get a nice S and O print of same hopper.

Designed and 3d printed based on a prototype in McLean, TX. This is HO scale, but I also did it in O scale. Design and construction details, including the raw printed O scale building can be seen at: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://nvrr49.blogspot.com/2014/04/phillips-66-mclean-tx-3d-printed-in-ho.html">http://nvrr49.blogspot.com/2014/04/phil ... in-ho.html</a><!-- m -->

Finally, the door locks are printed! Not, how I planned in metal, however this print is usable as a master piece for brass castings.

And it was not printed with a home 3D-printer. The costs are extremely expansive and definitively not comparable to Shapeways!
Notice, the long shafts have a diameter of 0.020". Also there I planned a dia of 0.016", however with metal parts I can reduce the dia alone by smoothing the shafts. Do you see the small lock in the middle of connection of the shafts?
More when I got the brass parts.
Cheers, Bernd

That is an excellent use of the technology!

Here is a pic of the 3D printed hopper painted and fitted with an as yet unpainted load and less trucks(still working on a mounting solution for rapido style trucks and couplers) and of course the famous O scale railroad worker posed with the N scaleish hopper and a Bachmann n scale gondola with load.

I was planning on posting a pic or two of a printed water tower but power went out mid print, early this morning, I dozed off to sleep about 10:30 last night thinking the print would done in the morning power went out about 3:00 this morning came back on about 5:30.

I will have to give it another try today, and the printer was doing exceptionally fine till the power went out Icon_lol

No storms over night some one must have hit a pole as the whole street was out except the street lights which are on another circuit then the homes.

Here is a pic of a water tower I found on thingaverse , the print took 27 Hours and 58 minutes from start to complete on a makerbot replicator 2. It prints in 6 separate components I plam on detailing and weathering the tower at some point.
