realy stupid question

I asked a question before under this title. These are similar questions.
1 Somewhere I saw something about tiny LEDs. They were so small that the wires were already attached. Does anyone know
what I am talking about?
2 Am I correct in understanding that a 1K resistor is what would be used for LED in DCC?
3 Could these tiny LEDs be used as marker lights on locomotives using the wire as a support ?

A good question!

1. Yes, those are SMD LED intended to be "Surface Mounted Devices" on PCB but they are also sold with direct soldered wires.

2. 1kOhm is not bad but if know nothing about the electric specifications of the LED I would start with 1.5kOhm to be on the save side.

3. Depends on the wire attached on the SMD LED you will get at your electronics store. Mine on the photo would be fine to hold the tiny LED mechanically.

ps. Be prepared for a much higher price than plain LED cost. The wires are usually soldered by hand. That increases the price.
pps. For the Germans/Europeans: on my photo is Conrad part number 156616, LED SMD m. Kabel 240 mm Weiss
