In fact, I just visited the Testors website and didn't find any info on their closing out Floquil paints.

I went there earlier yesterday and they still had links to Floquil, but later on, they were removed. I could still see those old pages though. since they were in my cache, but they've redone their home page since I first visited there.

Roger,I wish this was a joke or a ugly rumor but, here's the cold hard facts.

I saw this Yesterday as well. It kind of irritates me, since every hobby shop around me carries these paints, but I can only think of one other hobby shop the even stocks railroad paints of another brand, and its just over an hour away in North Jersey. (The Model Train Shop in Piscataway, for those curious).

I guess I better get all my kits and projects done soon, or there won't be any paint to do any of it... Were they really selling that poorly?

I'm still seeing Floquil and Pactra on this page: http://www.testors.com/model_and_hobby

It depends on how you get there I guess. I started out at http://www.testors.com/model_and_hobby and did not find any reference to Polyscale or Floquil, but when I search for "Floquil" in Google, I can find the page, probably because it's already in my cache. They do have a category "Railroad paints", but there's no reference to any brands.

I was up to my local Hobby Shop yesterday, and talked with the owner about "Testors".
His understanding is that they are " consolidating " their paint line, with the goal of reducing the number of "Brand Names".
( Model Master, Testor, Floquil etc. )
Our "learning curve" will be figuring out the names of which paints are the ones we've been using. My guess would be one name for the enamels, and one name for the lacquers. I would also guess that the color names would remain the same.

I wish that were the case. Model Railroader reports that Testors:

"Has no plans to move colors from the Floquil and Polly Scale lines to another line. Testors noted that colors used for weathering and scenery can be found in Testors’ CreateFX line of paints."

So basically, the generic dirt colors you can get anywhere will be saved, but it seems like Caboose Red, BNSF Yellow or Reading Green will no long be an option.

Many of you have expressed disappointment regarding our decision to exit Floquil and Polyscale. Decisions such as these are never easy. Trends in model railroading have changed over time.
Creating product for weathering and scenery has been more of the focus as train cars have moved to pre-decorated. The good news is that the same great products for weathering and scenery can be found in Testor's CreateFX line that is available now.
Please check your local hobby shop or http://www.testors.com and search CreateFX for information regarding this product line.

If they actually believe that statement they made, that shows how completely out of touch with MRR they really are. Icon_lol

I would substitute " Model Building " for "MRR". Those of us who build for a specific Prototype Railroad, want to be able to reproduce the colors of the road we are building for. There are a whole lot of " buy it RTR, and run it" folk that make up the greater MRR/trains community.
I worked, for a time in a Hobby Shop. Far more RTR went out the door, than did Kits, and more of those, than "Undec" kits.

Like any other "business", Testor's is looking to "profit", not provide ------- they won't be the first to feel the loss, when what they do market, is no longer used by many of the model building communities.
Remember that there are Cars, Trucks, Aircraft, Tanks and Artillery, Ships, and a variety of other subjects, that are purchased in plastic kit form, that need specific paint colors, for true accuracy.
Model builders will "find ways" to have those colors, and it just might not be Testors , that will be their source of paint. I expect to see modelers exchanging "paint mix formulas" of various brands, to get the true colors they want.
Tomorrow's "paint job", won't be, the first time I've mixed paint to get the right color..............and most likely not the last time either.
It is also not the first time I have used "Rust-oleum" spray paints for models/scenery.
Lastly, I have no intent on "getting too excited" about the paint issue, until the "dust settles" and the truth be known, about what will be available, and from whom it will come.
