DIGITRAX WITH SOUND
#1
I just installed my first Digitrax decoder It was a DH160LO it is designed to go in P2K GP7 or 9. I installed it in a Riverossi 4-6-4. Then plugged in a Sound Bug SFX004. Now I found the instructions hard to follow and proceded to burn out both units. Digitrax replaced both of them for me no charge. They told me go to their website for better directions. I said I can't so they mailed it to me. I feel they should include it with decoder. The problem is when the soundbug is hooked up with the decoder. Not in my wireing of the locomotive. I tried another decoder with 8 pin plug it worked fine. Anyway on with the story. Using the newly received instructions I proceeded with no problem. I have not fine tuned it yet but I already love it. F7 gives you a crossing signal whistle, it has all the sounds I want. the chuff rate is apparently not changeable. I have contacted them about this and will update when I know

So the Digitrax units do not work when you plug it into the NMRA 8 pin socket? And to top that off, it zaps the decoders?
WOW! What did you have to do to make them work? Per there instructions, of course.

You misunderstood me here. I said they do work very nicely. The instructions suck. I cooked both pieces because the instructions don't explain the correct way to install the sound bug. I did it wrong but they replaced both pieces no problem. You MUST go to their website to get correct orientation of the sound bug. Then you have to find it, not an easy task for me. But they sent me a printed copy after I told them I don't have access to internet, OK I told a white lie, I was pretty upset with them not including it with sound bug literature.

I have a couple rs-1's that I need to install the decoder board in, the guy said I could attach a sound bug to it, I had no idea what he was talking about and the boards still aren't installed. Icon_lol

As I said ,I am very pleased with the steam sound other than changing the chuff rate but I might be missing something in the directions I don't know about the diesel sound.

Les,CV's 133 and 134 should take care of what you want to do as adjusting the chuff rate.CV 133 is the chuff rate and cv 134 is the gear or wheel ratio. That should fix you up.I'am happy to hear that you like the sound bug, everyone that i've installed them in their Loco's are very pleased with them. How did you get the information on the chuff rate? and I did raise the volume but it still leaves some to be desired.
