I always wonder about this possibility when I am sitting there counting cars!!
This is a real matter of the-wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time, I guess. Quite sad.

Cid,I suspect your chances are slim..

There are safe guards..

Watch the approaching train at three quarters angle that way you can see any potential problems like a protruding or leaning load or excessive ballast dust-this could mean a truck is off the track and hitting the ballast..

Seeing any of the above will give you a warning to exit your car and the immediate area..Those few seconds can be a matter of life or death.Even if the protruding or leaning load passes safely by and other drivers may think you're foolish remember this..

Which is better to look foolish or be "smart" in a closed casket?
