This guy used 2 Knowles grand sugar cube speakers, and made a custom enclosure.Probably one of the best sounding EMD 567 sounds i've heard.Their are other cell phone speakers that can be purchased in bulk from Digi-key(USA)for about $2 a piece(US),and a Hobby store reatailer called Streamline backshop makes custom speaker chambers for many sizes of sugar cube speakers. They even produce their own speaker w/chambers.
I have viewed many videos on Youtube and have seen how most of these speakers are installed with the speaker face firing down into the enclosure, and i think to myself, well where does the sound come out?But if you watch the video it shows the face of the speaker firing up and out of the enclosure, not into it. :? :? And i must say the sound is chrystal clear.I noticed to that in the many videos i have observed, that a longer baffle does produce more bass response.

O.K. Here we are, one year later. Meanwhile some development was done.

This couple of EMD GP40-5 CW was purchased. They are from Atlas and were ordered decoderless in DC.

Both locos were equipped with a Soundtraxx Econami sounddecoder witn 21-p MTC plug. Installing was quite simple, just plug in. On the motherboard there were 2 tabs marked for speaker connection. So the conversion was quite simple.
Each of the locos was equipped with this type of speaker, ZIMO LSG50X15X14. Only a little bit at the rear end of the metal casting had to be removed, then this enclosure fits very slinky under the shell.
The soundfile chosed is EMD 645 Turbo. The upsetting was done with Decoder Pro / JMRI and SPROG3. This works hassle free and invited for experimenting with the sounds and soundfiles. Function mapping is now done by indexed CVs, you can assign every function to every button, they call it Flex-Map. But also there is still an alternative function mapping according to NMRA Standards.

As we have only this type of remote control available you have decide wise which of the many functions the decoder provides, you will need really for driving.
There are only 9 function buttons and 4 ( f5 - f8) of them are only acessible by pushing a shift button simultaneously.
So my decision was:
- f0 = lights
- f1 = bell
- f2 = horn long
- f3 = horn short
- f4 = brake
- f5 = manual notch up / start engine
- f6 = manual notch down / shut down engine
- f7 = crossing signal; ditchlights flashing simultaneously
- f8 = mute
As much as possible other available sounds and sound functions of the decoder were activated automatically, either by estimated time intervals or logical coupled to other sounds. E.g. brake squealing is determined how fast you turn the control knob down over an adjusted estimated time. If turning the control knob slowly no brake squeal is heard. Turning the knob fast triggers the squealing.

Meanwhile i made a little filming: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://youtu.be/NMkIiV-Ws_g">https://youtu.be/NMkIiV-Ws_g</a><!-- m -->
But my camera is one of those who can "also" filming, so the pictures are jerking and not the best quality, but the sound was captured pretty well. So listen yourself.

As the motor type can be easy changed by altering a CV, i made sound experiments with the soundfiles of the other engine types too. My opinion, this relatively big speakers and speaker enclosures produce great sound for the EMD 645 Turbo. It is also great for the GE FDL16.
But the EMD 567 is sounding not so great here. EMD 567 Turbo and ALCO 244 are sounding inferior, especially the ALCO 244 sounds better with a smaller speaker and enclosure. And in my ears the EMD 567 sounds better with a conventional dynamic speaker.
