Train superstitions
#1
I just found a train superstition I've never heard about and wondered if anyone else had heard it either -

Apparently, if you blow across each shoulder when you cross tracks it gives you good luck.

Would love to hear any other train superstitions! There must be some really old ones out there.

There are plenty of railroad story books that deal with superstitions....

My favorite is:
An Engineer (E) and a turn table controller (TT) were seen arguing. When asked by the Yardmaster (Y) what the matter was they replied:

TT: He won't let me turn the loco to the East (Counter Clockwise)
E: No Sir!!! You turn it toward the WEST! All the way around!

Y: But the line you want is only 3 tracks away, why go all the way around?
E: I ain't arguing with you anymore, turn it or I'll sit here all day!!

The Yardmaster boarded the locomotive..... "Why are you being so damn stubborn about this"?

Th eenginneer sat on his seat, looked at the yardmaster and said:
"5 years ago, my father was an engineer on this vary railroad. The one time they turned his loco toward the Sun (East) he died in a horrible derailment that very day. I've been working here 3 years now and have always turned the locos with the Sun... to the West."

The Yardmaster put his hand on the engineer's shoulder. He said "gimme a minute"

He walked down to the turntable man and within a minute, the locomotive was turning toward the West.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
If it's not a real story, i guess that it doesn't count as a real superstition.

How about this one: Bad things happen in Threes, especially Train Wrecks.

Never run an engine No. 9 especially in September.

Never step into a cab Left foot First!
