Other countries have that respect, in that, they still have memories of what the world looked like with a lot of buildings damaged by war.

Yup, how different things might be had New York City been like the London blitz. War destroys cities and kills people. It contaminates the soil, the skies and people's minds all for what?

Hello blue
Sun and 40s for the day.
I was too young to know what was happening overseas during WW2, but I remember what it was like here at home.
As mentioned, most of today's grownups never lived through a war.
A known train nut passed away from the dreaded C. We went to his house for a train sale. You fellers are Hoers so it might not interest you, but this guy had more 3 rail trains than I have ever seen in one place. Not only trains but shelves of unopened model plane kits. Also a huge collection of RC planes.
No special plans for this day.

Good morning folks

It is currently 47 with some showers. High will be 48 with supposedly a lot of rain.

Things went along pretty much as expected this weekend. We got up 90% of the outside Christmas decorations and about half of the inside decorations. Since the new outside cover for the air conditioner arrived I covered the air conditioning unit. I pulled out a bunch of dead plants out of the front garden prior to putting up the Christmas decorations. We ran the usual errands to the grocery store and PetSmart. We also took some Amazon returns to Kohl’s. This was a milestone visit for my wife and she walked through about half of the store and actually went to the fitting rooms to try on some things. The only thing she could not do was stand in the long checkout line.

I built six Accurail kits, painted the weights for four Accurail hopper kits, and sealed several cars with gloss coat in anticipation of adding decals. Speaking of decals I worked on renumbering a couple of Lehigh & New England Accurail 40 ft wood boxcars and a LNE 36 ft single sheath wood boxcar. The decals on the 40 footers went on easy enough but they are not melting into the wood grain and board edges. The decals for the 36 footer have been a nightmare. I had two sets basically destroy themselves. The decals I got on the car look like someone glue panels on the car. I am using Micro Sol and Micro Set and I feel they are not strong enough. I found and ordered Solvaset which I have used in the past with success. Once it arrives, I will try again.

Tonight will be more Christmas decorations. After that perhaps some train running.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Greetings, gang.

22 and clear going to maybe 32 with a chance of snow tonight. Once the temperature starts to drop this evening it won't get above freezing again until Saturday.

Swam my usual 1/2 mile but couldn't do any resistance work due to a sore shoulder so I just spent some time on the treadmill. Then another basketball game a half hour south of me. One more tonight and that should be it until maybe Friday or Saturday. Tonight's game will mark 6 days in a row that i have traveled a half hour or more for a family event. I've gone through over a half tank of gas to attend. Wouldn't have it any other way. Meeting my daughter for breakfast this morning. I wonder what she's up to as it's unusual to say the least.

Gas continues to drop. Down to $2.69 last night. That marks a 20 cent drop from last Thursday when the price jumped 40 cents. With the last trip (for a while at least) I'll fill the tank again when I come home from the game tonight.

All stay safe.

Greetings, gang.

It's a cloudy 14 degrees in the remote reaches of northern Iowa this morning with a light dusting of snow. That 14 degrees is the high for the day as the temperature will be going down and the wind speed will be going up. Could hit 30 mph later making for some ugly wind chills.

Quiet day yesterday. Had a pleasant visit with my daughter. Then late afternoon I went to the 6th family event in the last 6 days requiring a trip of a half hour or more. I went through 3/4 of a tank of gas just going to family events. Next trip is this weekend about 45 minutes away but that remains doubtful as freezing rain is predicted.

With all the traveling I stopped to fill the tank last night and gas was down again to $2.66.

All stay safe.

Hello Blue
Cloudy. 33 degrees and going down today. Hi tomorrow of 20.
No plans for this day. Yesterday however I got a haircut and a trip to the Mds office where I learned the 54-year-old receptionist died from a heart attack. She was nicer than most as she didn't have that office attitude. No news on the trains. I just haven't had the feel for them lately.

Good afternoon

Heat is on in the barn, hoping to "plant" some more grass later. I test ran the latest heritage locomotive and I am pleased with its operation.

It is one of those days that I am glad to be retired. We have light snow and it is laying on the grass but the drive is still too warm. The snow blower is ready to go if needed.

I had an appointment with the urologist yesterday and he must be ok with my ct scan because I am not scheduled for another visit until October. I am OK with that.

Stay warm and healthy, play with trains and have a cup of egg nog

Greetings, gang.

Currently +5 outside my window this morning. Overnight we had our first below 0 reading when the temperature reached -1. High for today is supposed to be the low to mid teens. 40 and rain by Saturday.

Nothing to report from yesterday and today looks to be very much the same. As mentioned I filled the gas tank Tuesday evening. Then yesterday the price of gas dropped another nickle. I feel very good about adding another 50 cents to the golden parachute of some oil company executive.

All stay safe.

Good afternoon everyone. Heading for a high of 72 today under partly cloudy skies. We enclosed the back yard a few weeks ago and reconfigured the driveway allowing the old carport to become an outside patio space. Right now considering adding screens to the sides to make a bug free outdoor space.useable october-may. Kids and wife don’t like eating outside due to flies.

Greetings, gang.

29 now going to maybe 34. Our very good friends at the National Weather Service have scheduled a variety of entertainment for today. The day's events include rain, sleet, and freezing rain. Not gonna be a pretty day. Due to the weather basketball for one of the great-grandsons has been canceled.

Had a decent workout at the gym yesterday but then the guys decided that the bad weather was all my fault because I put the moped in storage way too early. Nice guys. Today's activities include laundry, house cleaning, and adding some water to the water bed.

One station tried to raise gas prices to $2.89 but the other stations stayed around the $2.60 mark. The high priced station lasted about a day before they caved and lowered the price back to $2.61.

All stay safe.

' morning.   29° and gas at 2.84.  It was 2.69 yesterday. Lots of sun so the front porch is warming nicely. It is a sun porch and the temps will get into the 80's there on sunny days for the next 3 weeks or so, then the angles get a little sharper and the direct sunlight looses some power. We still get many days that it is useable through the winter without any man made heat.

I may sort some photos today.

Stay healthy and happy.

Misty rain with a hi of 42 today.
No special plans so I will watch the Lions game, hoping for another win. A meeting at the club house Friday night brought some visitors in, some I knew some I didn't.
Lots of ado about the drones, I don't think the gov. is telling us what they really know. Or they are too stupid to find out.

Greetings, gang.

The fog is lifting and the sky is clearing, powered by a strong (30 mph) wind. Currently 33 going to 4e later.

Saturday's ice caused a few problems but since I didn't have to go anywhere I didn't have any. I did notice at one point that someone didn't believe the ice when I saw tire tracks gong straight the the curb rather than completing the turn at the intersection by my house. I also saw a neighbor who lives just a couple houses down drive through the intersection at her normal speed. About a minute later I saw her circle the block at a m-u-c-h slower speed. I'm guessing she slid past her driveway the first time around.

I didn't sleep well last night so no trip to the gym today. Woke up a little before two and tossed and turned for an hour before I finally gave up.. Came downstairs and read for an hour before finally getting sleepy again. Slept til after 7 and still feel a little groggy.

All stay safe.
