I post this with tears in my eyes, but our good friend Mike Goad, known to us all as, Tyson Rayles, passed away Nov. 7th. We all know that Mike has been sick for some time and he did keep in touch as to how he was doing, basically saying that this was inevitable. His stepson Vince just sent me the news.
Mike was a good modeler, a downright good person and a mentor to many of us modelers. The last that we heard from him, he had dodged the ravages of a recent hurricane, this illness he could not dodge.
RIP my friend.....

Wow this is a kick in the gut. We have lost another great one.
I first met Mike when I first began visiting forums some 30 years ago. He was one of the first people I interacted with back on the old Railroad Line Forum before the Great Moderator War. He was the one who recommended the Gauge to me as a new place to hang out.
Rest in Peace. His family has our deepest sympathies and prayers.

Just in case some of you didn't know, Mike had been with us since the old, "The Gauge" days dating back to 2001. He kept me up on his medical issues and said a few months ago that he could no longer work on his layout and turned it over to someone else that would be able to move it forward. Even then, he still kept coming here and contributing and commenting as best he could. He had serious COPD and struggled with the bureaucracy to get the care he needed.
We all benefited to his being here and he will be missed dearly....

There was a previous time that Mike was in the hospital. Some of the members here found out which one and the switchboard was confused with calls for "Tyson Rayles".

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

Oh my God this is terrible. Mike was such a great guy and knew a lot about the hobby. It is such a shame that this has happened to him. I remember at the "old gauge" when there was the chatroom and he would be in there with all of us. I am sure going to miss seeing his work and his knowledge of this hobby we all love so much. May he rest in peace and watch over all of us from here on out.
