Hard to believe that I bought my first Bachmann On30 Wonderland Express train-set 20 years ago. Wow, twenty years ago.

Have a "what-I-did" about lowering the Bachmann On30 freight cars to eliminate the funky draft gear look.

I know that lowering the cars has been done before. Never did it because most used the Bachmann On30 logging truck which is expensive and scarce. Found a really cheap On30 truck at Shapeways.

Speaking of time, been spouting my garbage on the internet for 15 years. Next March is the 15th anniversity of pacificcoastairlinerr.com. Have refreshed some of the "moving" stuff on the website to reflect On30 today.

I've often heard the term "modeller's licence" which in my interpretation means it's your model railroad so anything goes.I model the CNR in the mid 50's and I do try to keep my collection as close to the prototypes during that era but every once in a while I get into a "what if" frame of mind.The CNR T4 Santa Fe (2-10-2) steam locomotives were primarily found in Western Canada and were oil-burners with the typical big square oil bunker tenders.When #4300 arrived on the Leetown Division the maintenance dept. decided to change tenders---personally I really like the new look---sorry if I have offended any true die hard CNR steam collectors.


   

I tried sending a PM the other day and my limit had been reached. I think when the move was made even all of the previously deleted messages were transferred. I had to empty all of my folders, including the trash (which is where they go when deleted)  so members should clean them out if they want more messages. I tried sending one to Ralph this AM but he is over limit so I am thinking it may a be widespread problem

I had a Accurail boxcar which didn't fit the era I am modeling.

   

I stripped the paint off, carved off some molded-in grab irons and stirrups and replaced them with metal ones.

   

I replaced the Fishbelly with Center Sills and added some brake rods and plumbing.

CNR N4A #2659 leads a double-headed freight train with a string of OCS (ON COMPANY SERVICE) loaded hoppers towards Leetown.This locomotive is from Overland Models Inc.

   

Here is a project I did some months ago.

I began with a Tichy Train Group Rebuilt USRA Boxcar. I wanted to finish it as a CNR Boxcar series 470000.

As the CNR (just like the GTW) prototype was a little bit different than the normal Rebuilt USRA Boxcar, i had to make some modifications to the kit.

First, I had to replace the center sill with a Fishbelly I borrowed from an Accurail kit.

   

Then I replaced the side ladders with grab irons and made new stirrups more appropriate for the CNR prototype.

   

After some issues with paint and decals, here is the finished car.

   

Far from perfect but a nice addition to my car roster.

I got this steeple cab kit that I thought had a close resemblance to bush terminal #10/22. It's a pretty basic kit with no detail parts. #10 later became #22 and the pantograph was changed similar to a trolley pole type. I found a trolley pole and bell I can use, anyone have a an idea on what headlights to use?

Just a heads up, 

There was a glitch last night in the forum and it was knocked off line. I had to restore from a backup that was made around 5 pm yesterday evening. So if you posted anything between 5-8 pm MST yesterday, and it's gone, that's what happened to it

I was recently given an Atlas Roundhouse to build for another modeller and yesterday I started to build it.


First the unboxing:




As big as it is, it's a pretty basic kit. looking over the instructions (one page, double sided) Almost everything is tab-and-slot assembly. If I didn't plan on painting it, I could probably build it in a couple hours. I did find one thing that surprised me though, the window glass is in a small plastic bag and appears to be laser or die cut from so thin clear styrene.
 

Seeing as I am going to paint all the brick on the structure, I thought it best to assemble all the brick walls beforehand. The base extends past the front wall because it's designed to interlock with the atlas turntable. I have an atlas turntable on my layout but I have a Helgan roundhouse instead of this one.

The kit also comes with a brick office that will attach to the roundhouse in a location of your choice.


The whole assembly to this point took about an hour, using Plastruct Plastic weld liquid cement. Today I primed all the assemblies with a gray primer and now I'm just waiting for the primer to dry and cure before painting the brick.
