  CSXT gondolas question
Posted by: Savez - 10-20-2016, 06:49 AM - Forum: US Rails - No Replies

Hello everyone,
Wasn't sure if this was the right place for this question but I wanted to ask if there are any ex-Union Pacific gondolas out there patched out for CSXT? I thought I would ask on this forum before I start searching the hundreds of pictures on rail fanning and picture archive sites. A follow up question if I may; if there aren't any gondolas are there any freight cars like this? Thanks in advance for replies,

Clint

  Canadian Pacific FP-7 question
Posted by: cnrglen - 10-19-2016, 10:33 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (3)

I'm just finishing up some details on a Canadian Pacific FP-7 A and B set and was wondering if anyone could tell me if the B units were equipped with the icicle breakers or were only the A's? I can't seem to find any prototype photos of B units with them.
Also would anyone have a decent photo of the roof of an A unit for placement of the Icicle Breakers?

Help please - Erie L-1 blue prints searched!
Posted by: modelsof1900 - 10-17-2016, 04:26 AM - Forum: Engineer's Technical Workshop - Replies (2)

I'm searching blue prints or good drawings of ERIE L-1 camelback mallet, here a picture of this steam engine. Construction of brake gear is of especially interest.

Whe knows persons, sources or links where I could ask for help? Thanks to all beforehand for your help!

  The Hustlers live again!
Posted by: Chuck - 10-15-2016, 07:35 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (2)

Hey everyone! just have to share -- I finally got my Hustlers back into service! I was having a number of issues with them and finally found some solutions. First, the motor kept shifting causing the Ernst gearing to bind. The second issue was electrical pickup issues. So here are the fixes:
I screwed the motor in place keeping it from shifting and binding the gears. I was able to set the correct gap between the gears and the worm using shims so no more binding.

Second, the rigid frame of the hustlers keeps the wheels from maintaining good contact over even the slightest dip. I finally figured out how to solve this -- a power truck from an old Athearn 6 axle diesel. I gutted the gears so it would roll freely (it is the dummy unit used to house the decoder and for extra electrical pickup). I trimmed the axle cover to allow the wheels more movement. I soldered a wire across the axles to keep them from falling out as you can see in the picture. I also had to grind away the side frames a bit to give the wheel axles some space.

A little acrylic caulk to hold the truck in place and viola! Runs fantastic! I have no more binding and electrical issues.

Now I need to find another 6 axle truck so I can experiment with adding a motor to power another hustler project.

The New Future of MRR Operating Systems
Posted by: MountainMan - 10-15-2016, 04:31 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (16)

Not very long ago, some Garden scale folks started using batteries and radio control to run their trains.

Yesterday, I read the latest ad for a radio control, lithium battery powered, operating system for HO, on the market right now, complete with installable microcircuit board.

Won't be long before there is one for N-scale and DCC will become as obsolete as all the rest of the previous systems.

I can't wait.

  The Royal Train (1939)
Posted by: BATMAN - 10-14-2016, 12:46 PM - Forum: Canada Rails - Replies (6)

Hi all.
I am thinking of getting Rapido's (blue) Royal Hudson when the date is announced. I am having a hard time finding out about the rest of the consist of that train. It is probably just because I am asking the wrong question of Google, however, if someone could point me in the direction of such info, it would be greatly appreciated. 219
Thanks
Brent

Looking for a couple of these, preferably lettered for CN. Undecorated or anything really, is also acceptable. Wink
