Has anyone had good luck on stripping  paint off old AHM cars made in Austria so far the tried and true 90% alcohol has not done it  and I'm out of potassium hydroxide  (pot ash ) . has anyone tried Mr. clean on these cars ? what I'm trying to strip is several helium cars .

  2021 SWD Summer Convention
Posted by: Schraddel - 08-09-2021, 03:38 AM - Forum: Modular Modeling - Replies (2)

Hello,

there are still possibilities of activities of normal social life in a Covid19 afflicted world. Here in Germany lockdown and assembly ban was suspended and so it was the chance to have a modular convention. The Fremo Southwest Division took the chance and organized it' first convention since October 2019. We had to comply with hygenical and offical orders, but at least we had our modular convention.

Wednesday teh first packets of modules arriving in the hall, some of them were also already built up.

This is Loop Yard just loaded out of the car. Some survival assets of the owner too.

That is what i call planning! Goldth

Thursday afternoon the Loop Yard was pretty full of trains. In the foreground the Zepyhr in full length, on the track behind a 12 metres (39.4 ft) through train of covered hoppers.

One of the locos to move those trains.

My partipication of this convention was the reason because i was not active here.

Posted by: CNR5103 - 08-03-2021, 06:31 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (5)

I have already posted this photo in a previous thread.

I finished them yesterday.  The #78192 is a Sylvan Scale Models kit.

The #78374 is a Norwest Model kit.

I now have eight of those (6 from Sylvan and 2 from Norwest).  I have one more in its box but that's enough for now.  I have all I need for my small layout, more than what I need in fact.

  An avoidable tragedy
Posted by: ezdays - 08-02-2021, 06:00 AM - Forum: Hobo's Camp - Replies (11)

It pains me to talk about this, but we are all friends here and so I care. I have just a simple request to those that haven't had their Covid-19 shots, please run to the nearest place that's giving them and get vaccinated. There's no charge and it's a lot easier that it was a few months ago. Why do I care? Well, my youngest son, as he puts it, "doesn't believe" in getting the shots thanks to all those "influencers" and Internet trolls. I guess that thinking extends to his family and so none of them has gotten vaccinated. My grandson got very sick last week, had all the symptoms of Covid, and on Friday, he fell, and by the time the EMT's got to him, it was too late, he was gone.... Whether it was the Covid or the fall doesn't matter, if he had gotten his shots, he would still be here.

Not the best of news, but let's hope this can be a wake-up call to those that put more faith in what they read on Facebook than reality, or those that just say they'll do it soon. This kind of thinking not only puts that person at risk, but everyone else that they contact. As for me, I was early in line back in January, and if they say we need a booster shot, I'll be early in line again. I hope that's the case with you as well.

Hello,

this time a link to a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02DoB1AUzno
A cab ride on board a electric locomotive through the Rhine Valley, Germany's Grand Canyon. The real fun starts at about 45:00 when the train departs Bingen Hauptbahnhof. A lot of medival castles and small towns to be seen. Most of the castles in ruins, but some rebuilt to old glory and other stuff like the famous Loreley Rock can be seen too. If you like and have one hour time to spend, watch that video.
Enjoy

  A 3d printed HOn3 2-6-0

So far everything in the photo is 3d printed thru Shapeways with the exception of a few bits of brass wire and rod.

My goal is to 3d print nearly everything except motor, axles, some brass wire, and wheels.
