I have already posted this photo in a previous thread.

I finished them yesterday.  The #78192 is a Sylvan Scale Models kit.

The #78374 is a Norwest Model kit.

I now have eight of those (6 from Sylvan and 2 from Norwest).  I have one more in its box but that's enough for now.  I have all I need for my small layout, more than what I need in fact.

  An avoidable tragedy

It pains me to talk about this, but we are all friends here and so I care. I have just a simple request to those that haven't had their Covid-19 shots, please run to the nearest place that's giving them and get vaccinated. There's no charge and it's a lot easier that it was a few months ago. Why do I care? Well, my youngest son, as he puts it, "doesn't believe" in getting the shots thanks to all those "influencers" and Internet trolls. I guess that thinking extends to his family and so none of them has gotten vaccinated. My grandson got very sick last week, had all the symptoms of Covid, and on Friday, he fell, and by the time the EMT's got to him, it was too late, he was gone.... Whether it was the Covid or the fall doesn't matter, if he had gotten his shots, he would still be here.

Not the best of news, but let's hope this can be a wake-up call to those that put more faith in what they read on Facebook than reality, or those that just say they'll do it soon. This kind of thinking not only puts that person at risk, but everyone else that they contact. As for me, I was early in line back in January, and if they say we need a booster shot, I'll be early in line again. I hope that's the case with you as well.

Hello,

this time a link to a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02DoB1AUzno
A cab ride on board a electric locomotive through the Rhine Valley, Germany's Grand Canyon. The real fun starts at about 45:00 when the train departs Bingen Hauptbahnhof. A lot of medival castles and small towns to be seen. Most of the castles in ruins, but some rebuilt to old glory and other stuff like the famous Loreley Rock can be seen too. If you like and have one hour time to spend, watch that video.
Enjoy

Lutz

So far everything in the photo is 3d printed thru Shapeways with the exception of a few bits of brass wire and rod.

My goal is to 3d print nearly everything except motor, axles, some brass wire, and wheels.

Make your own steam handrail stanchions?
Posted by: nachoman - 07-26-2021, 10:05 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (5)

I'm building a small steam locomotive - from scratch - and need 6 handrail stanchions.  My goal is to buy as few commercial parts for this locomotive - either make it or use what I have on hand.  Anyone ever make a handrail stanchion?

Some years ago, I had trouble finding a good caboose kit for the CNR Wood Caboose.  I then thought about buying a Juneco Wood kit I had found on ebay.  Some wise modeller told me it was not worth the effort.

At the beginning of 2020, a friend of mine asked me to help him start such a kit he had bought cheap in a train show.  I told him to bring it home and we started the project. When he left, he left the kit on my bench for the glue to set.  I was supposed to bring it back to him the next week while visiting his layout for an operation session.  Then the COVID-19 struck and we where isolated from each other for much too long and had plenty of time for modelling.  So I finished the kit for him.

This was a completely new modelling experience.  I had to plan the assembly sequence differently.  Applying the decals was a nightmare as they adhered to the wood almost immediately.

Here is the result.

The wise modeler was right.  I will never do a wood kit again.

Looks like WPMA-17 is going to have an easy day, as it leaves the yard with only two cars.
