Some of you may remember waaaaayyyy back to when I had originally proposed these modules for "Marlpost". Marlpost is a fictional, rural southern Ontario town set between the Wars (1919 to 1939).

I have recently modified the track plan, constructed the required modules, and come up with a plan on how to use them both at home and at club (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.hotrak.ca">www.hotrak.ca</a><!-- w -->) set-ups. Thanks to those who gave me some input on how to install them at home in a secure, but temporary way (see <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2359">viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2359</a><!-- l -->).

Here is another planning shot showing all the track, along with the final home configuration, and a number of ways that the modules can be combined at the club. There are many more configurations when you consider that they do not have to be joined at all, and that the two halves of Marlpost do not have to be used together.

Did anybody see Top Gear last night?
As always, the producers of Top Gear get the three hosts to compete in some sort of race. Last nights race was from London to Edinburgh.
The guys of Top Gear chose three modes of transportation circa 1949. James drove a Jaguar XK120 (the fastest car in the world at the time). Richard rode a Vincent Black Shadow (the fastest bike in the world at the time). And, Jeremy (much to his chagrine) did NOT get to drive but instead, did his best at being the fireman on an A1 Pacific class steam locomotive.

If you've not seen the episode yet and plan to, don't read on as I'm about to give you the results.


1st place goes to the Jaguar. While he held a steady second through most of the race, he pulled ahead just at the last.
2nd place goes to the locomotive. It held the lead by a longshot for nearly the entire race but due to steam problems it lost it right at the end.
3rd place obviously goes to the Black Shadow. A slight goof with the reserve tank allowed some gunk to clog things up resulting in a lot of lost time.

This is a short video of J&M Short line RR. There is something wrong with the sound. When I figure it out and fix it I will re post it. As of now I am at a loss. Anyway I think you will be able to appreciate the grades this little Rail Road has to battle. This is all up hill stuff and only about 1/2 way to the top. Now try going down.

Here is another plastic container manufacturer, Silgan Plastics, in the Mykawa West Industrial Park. Their website is <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.silganplastics.com">http://www.silganplastics.com</a><!-- m -->.

They receive plastic pellets by rail in covered hoppers, and ship by truck and rail (although the rust on the warehouse rail spur looks like it hasn't seen traffic lately). There is a manufacturing building and a seperate warehouse. The first batch of photos is the manufacturing building. If anyone needs a piece of flexable hook-up wire some wheres in the neighborhood of #30AWG why go to Radio Shack and buy the stranded telephone wire. It is very fine and flexable and can be found in 2 or 4 wires to the hook-up cable. All one needs to do then is to seperate the wires(which are color coded). You can get this wire in various lengths from 6 t0 50 feet at a very reasonable price.

This is the latest trailer I have started, an SAIA Motor Freight Lines Inc. 53' Wabash Duraplate Trailer.












The trailer is mostly completed as it is now, but there are still a couple things that need to be done before it is 100% complete:

1. Install Mud Flaps and SAIA Mud Flap Decals
2. Paint red rear lights
3. Seal trailer with clear flat finish

I will be doing a few more trailers for SAIA as well, I plan to do another 53' Plate Trailer, a 48' Trailer, an older 40' Trailer, and 2 sets of 28' pups with converter dollies. I havnt decided how many cabs I will paint and decal for SAIA yet, but they will be all Mack CH 603 Day Cabs similar to the ones that are in the pictures above. I might do a Ford LN9000 to mix it up a tad, but I havnt decided yet lol Should have the cabs in sometime this week
