Hi when using the Kato turnouts with DCC do I need to fit insulators to the frog heels of the turnouts?

Just a couple of questions...
I'm putting in a couple of 12v. grain of wheat bulbs hanging from the roof of the foundry, and need some lamp shades to "dress" them up. Any one have any ideas as to how to go about making them, and what material to use..?? Also, are LED's "dimmable"..??

These are the last two hurdles left to clear before "buttoning'er up"...

I use the resistors recommended by the decoder company and blow the bulbs. Then I try what worked in another locomotive and blow the bulb. I have more with no lights than with lights and I am running out of bulbs. I am not buying any more bulbs until I find out what I am doing wrong. With DC I used a bridge rectifier to reduce the voltage. can this be done with DCC ?

Yeah, I know I have a PM thread somewhere. However, since my attitude is different, so is this thread. Any work I do, good bad or ugly is going to be here. Here is where I will look for suggestions, feedback, etc. I look forward to starting new.
Now I just have to clear off the junk that is on my benchwork and work station and get at it.

Hey folks. It's been a while since my last visit, and longer still since my last post. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and the New Year is promising good things.
I had a death in the family. I am not going to go into great detail, but it was someone close, someone that I admired. They died shortly before Thanksgiving. It was a sudden passing, but in retrospect, not a surprise.
Their death taught me something. In evaluating my own life, which alot of folks do when someone they love passes, I have come to the conclusion that I spend too much time complaining and dwelling on negatives. Well, enough of that. Life is about living, not about what is wrong. I promise I will no longer come here and whine and moan. This is my safe haven. I will come here to share in this great hobby with my hobby family (that is if you don't mind me calling you all family).
Every day is a step forward. No matter how small that step might be, it is forward. No longer is the glass half empty, it is a challenge to see how I can make it full.
I am not going to lie to you all and say that I am going to spend the rest of my life thinking about sunshine and roses, come on, I am still a realist. I am just not going to dwell on the bad.
With that said, it feels good to be back, and I look forward to making some layout progress to share with you all.

Anyone here use Super Trees? They recommend painting the stalks. Couldn't one tint the diluted matte medium to a brown or whatever? I dipped some trees and let them dry and they looked pretty white from the glue, I would guess they would take the color.

Also, anyone have any thoughts between using fine-leaf foliage and clump foilage? I have the clump, but don't really like it but was wondering if it would be worth it to buy some of the fine leaf. I am modeling in N. Thanks.
