Some of you already know that I am the supervisor of operations of the Kiski Junction Railroad.
On December 30 I will be passing the torch to my engineer/conductor Marty Schulte. (we will have to make him join to keep us updated)
The KJR will continue as it is with the passenger trains and the mill freight, and we are to receive our first inbound loads for the river terminal later tonight. (I have been after this business for 12 years). New track construction to Logansport (7 miles north) should start in the spring.
Back to the topic, we ran our last passenger trains under my supervision over the week end, a Christmas train with Snow Dog Express as its theme.
We bring our two Samoyed's to the station and let the little ones see them and pet them. A portion of the proceeds go to Orphans of the Storm, A local shelter.
We raised $729 for the shelter with the passenger rides, and $75 from the motor car rides. (a great success).
During the day I had a special surprise guest arrive from North of the border. Wayne came down to share the day with me, and then, Santa even showed up.
After the train was tucked away they gave Mary and I a surprise retirement party.
The guys got Mary a digital picture frame and a USB thumb drive. Something she has wanted for quite a while but never picked one up.
I was blessed with a couple of wonderful cars built by Wayne, one an outside braced wood box car with EG&E reporting marks        
The other was a wonderfully detailed model of our X29 prototype as it must have looked in the early 50's, my era.    

Today is December 7th, the 68th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

I have been visiting web sites for 11 years now, and although I don't want to hurt any feelings, I think looking at pictures in the gallery is the second most difficult on the web.
I want to send links to some rail friends to encourage them to join, but I can't seem to find any links that would produce a slide show of pictures in the member galleries. If there is a way to do it, I need instructions, and might suggest that it be made more user friendly to find.
If it isn't an option, could it be made one.
Another thing, (just my preference) when you click on one of the thumbs it wants to download the picture. Most of us are used to clicking on thumbs for the larger version, and then right click to download. In the gallery you have to click the title to get the larger version.

I'm sure some one has done this before but I had an idea to put my tree on wheels to make it easier to decorate. I bought an inexpensive wooden disk intended for table tops, drilled holes in it, and installed eight rolling casters. I secured the tree stand to center of the disk. We decorated the tree in the middle of the room, making it easy to access all sides, and very handy for stringing lights all around. Once it was fully decorated we wheeled the tree into the corner. A tree skirt covers the disk and wheels.

I'm a bit confused...I noticed that Kato is now listing the upcoming ES44AC edition for UP and CP, and so is Fox Valley Models. Who's actually making these? Is Fox Valley using the Kato frames and engines and just designing and producing a new shell or is both companies making their own models?

This is my first serious attempt at weathering. It's an old Campbell oil tank. I sprayed the tank with some cheapie silver aluminum spary paint from W-mart and painted the legs with aged concrete. Then I used some reefer orange for the rust and tried to put some charcoal on the tank. Didn't stick very well so I gave it a coat of PolyScale dust and tried again.

Please let me know your thoughts. As mentioned in the title, I would much prefer honesty.

Hi at all!

Yesterday I have bought the used engine house shown below!

Has anybody an idea on who is the manufacturer of this kit, and most important, where I can find this kind of engine house in the US?! I hope east coast (maybe West Virginia?).

For those of you who are familiar with the USA network's show "Monk" about the detective with OCD, the recently run two part final episode included a scene in which a suspect was being chased through a freight yard. The locos and many of the cars were obviously BNSF equipment but every swoosh logo was covered with just enough graffiti to cover the letters BNSF. The one exception was a front end shot of a loco that read "BVSE". I don't know if coverage was actually applied to the equipment or i it was somehow photoshopped into the scene. The consistent efforts to cover the company logo made me wonder if it was the railroad's policy or if the TV network didn't want to offer free advertising for the railroad.

Any thoughts?
