I thought it would be fun to post some short line action..Let's see those short line photos!

So,I will kick it off.

Last night while out and about I saw 2 green looking locomotives on the CF&E and after a short "pursuit" these units turn out to be I&ORY GP50 5001 and HLCX MP15AC #1400.Thankfully I had my camera since I had planned on stopping at Col/San for some evening railfanning.

Notice the darkening sky..A T-Storm was heading my way and I could hear the thunder thundering. :o

CF&E is making a reverse move around the connector so it can enter NS's Sandusky main line in order to head to Transco and switch out the cars.

   

After switching Transco the CF&E crew reverse moves back onto home track.

Does anyone have experience with American Model Builders kits? There are at least two that I am considering for my layout, the small church and the company house. The description says they are laser cut wood and easy to assemble. Are these the kind of kits that are basically a box of raw materials and an instruction sheet, or the kind where there are a few precut and shaped pieces that need to get glued together? How are they for adding extra details or kitbashing, or slightly rearranging the floorplan?

Selective compression being rather common in mrr-land, are there any 'rules' by which you or the general modeling community compresses distance or is the general tendency to go for whatever looks good in a given situation. More concretely, I am thinking about the placement of trackside signage and signalling where according to the rules on the 1:1 railroad, signs indicate a certain distance and thus are situated at a certain distance from each other. On an average model railway (that is, not the big ones where 10+ feet sections of track between switches are common) adding any such signs at 'realistic distances' wouldn't really work, so compressing 50% or more might be sensible. Any comments on this? Are there prototype-following purists who scoff at any such idea?

Could anyone point me in the direction to find a DCC equipped or capable British loco?

I'm specifically looking for an A1 4-6-2.

The A1 4-6-2 is just a Flying Scotsman, without the Flying Scotsman name badge.

I've checked Hornsby and Trix, but can't seem to find a DCC one.

The other day I went to a hobby shop. LOL. I was looking through all the train stuff this guy had and came across the very last Chessie System (WM Markings ) and just had to have it. So I bought it. Got ten percent off of it. Wasn't a bad price at all. Original price was $20.00.

...once the world's largest ore dock. It had 112 chutes per side, and could load two ore ships at once. Sadly, even though it is over one hundred years old, and the nice town of Ashland, WI would like to keep it as a tourist attraction, it is scheduled to be demolished in the near future.

It looks as if we will be taking our motor home out to California for Christmas and New Year's and beyond. L.A., San Francisco, Sacramento. Stops at San Antonio and The Grand Canyon on the way.
We could do with suggestions on:
Camp grounds.
Railway attractions.
Other attractions.
So far the only fixed events are the Rose Parade on New Years Day and Disneyland on my birthday (It's free!! ).
Any local hobby shops?

When I was putting the industries down on my layout,I had one spot where I could put a small building. Well after in was in and scenery added I could never make up my mind what I wanted it to be used for so I took a different approach,I boarded it up.Here's the end result.
