  Update on Pete (sumpter250)
Posted by: ezdays - 06-05-2020, 02:05 PM - Forum: Hobo's Camp - Replies (11)

I talked to Pete's daughter, Heather, and she tells me that he's still in a nursing home, is doing well, is comfortable, but is no better memory-wise. She hasn't seen him since early March because of the lockdowns, and she said that he probably won't know who she is when she is able to see him again.

Not much more to say, but I thought that those who know Pete would like to know what's been happening to him. For those of you that came here after Pete left, He was a moderator, one of the best modelers doing both trains and ships, and probably one  of the nicest people you'll ever meet and proud to call your friend. Pete came down with memory issues a few years ago and has been in a nursing home for the past two years or so.

  Its been a while
Posted by: Wheeltapper - 05-28-2020, 08:25 PM - Forum: Layouts - Replies (7)

Hello,

I am in a strange situation with my kids almost heading out to university and yet not quite. I have risk assessed the likely candidates bedroom to use and it happens to be the one who will be heading out soonest, go figure.

I have been given lots of time recently to pick up a love for model railroading after the last portable 5x4ft railroad the kids and I built. So after making my collection more focused and thinning the herd I decided, with support, on a shelf layout. The condition was that it complimented, not invade the room.

I looked at what I could with a 12 inch wide layout around 3 walls and surprisingly its quite a bit. Rather than fill it will industries and all my rolling stock I want to go the other way and fill it with golden harvest wheat fields, maybe an elevator and maybe a farm and of course the ever popular rural grade crossing and dirt road.

I am using 1x3 inch pine lumber, nice and light with metal brackets which will hopefully be substantially covered by 3mm hardboard fascia. The surface will be my old friend pink board as I have not really found anything to beat its ease to use and its ability to give elevation.

This will be a DC layout so I am looking for any handheld suggestions.

This layout sits in front my desk and is an extension of my thoughts as I keep on running, nominally a CNR entity.

Thanks

Sean

  Memorial Day 2020
Posted by: ngauger - 05-24-2020, 08:05 AM - Forum: Hobo's Camp - Replies (3)

Well, it's been a strange year so far.  Here we are almost half way through and looking at Memorial Day tomorrow.
I thought this would be appropriate as just another reminder of what the day means.  Those who have given all.

Photo Samhongsa 2-8-2 S-2 Mikado

        Hello,

I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of a well loved and cared for Brass Samhongsa CNR painted 2-8-2 S-2 Mikado.
The previous owner has said that after approximately 15 years in storage the motor is working in forward and reverse but the locomotive will not move. He suggest it could be drive chain linkage has become disconnected or that the coupler has dried up.

This is a lovely looking engine and I would like to see if we have any other owners of this type of brass locomotive that could make some suggestions?

Thank you

Sean

Got this email this morning regarding hminky. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends. It's hard to say much more than that.

I'm his widow, would appreciate any interesting Harold anecdotes.

I recently got a couple of tabletop photo lights to replace the aging old desk lamps I have been using. They have different color filters and I need some thoughts, opinions, and suggestions on the what seems to work or what people like.

So here we go

I'm getting a message when I try to access this website that your certificate has expired? I had to go around Firefox to get here.
