Re: What are your other hobbies? - sgtcarl1 - 01-06-2009 Tetters: That's way more than just doodleing!! Great art work!! (That would make a way cool tat!!) Shay: Enjoyed your little steam engine!! And thanks for the background sound! That's one of my all time favorites!! My little Volvo has a feature that if you turn up the volume on the stereo, and put on full bass, the bass sounds are channelled into the car's chassis. I love playing that tune on the Cd and crankin' the volume!! BTW, my other hobbies are woodworking and photography. Re: What are your other hobbies? - eightyeightfan1 - 01-06-2009 I'm also into collecting cars. Unfortunatly, the ones I collect, I can put on a shelf, and most of them have numbers on them. Re: What are your other hobbies? - w8jy - 01-07-2009 In addition to model railroading, I have several other hobbies, which explains why my layout is progressing so slowly. Amateur radio - my primary hobby - I spend a lot of time with this. I enjoy CW (Morse code), radioteletype and other digital means of communications, as well as voice. Photography - I have enjoyed this hobby for years, but since the advent of digital cameras, I have really gotten back into this with a vengeance. I finally upgraded to the camera I wanted (a Canon 5D), and I am still buying lenses (no such thing as too many lenses). I am slowly mastering Photoshop, which is an amazing program. I am not a professional and don't want to convert a fun hobby into a job. Besides, working aggravates an allergy of mine, so I gave it up. Woodworking - I have a completely outfitted woodshop in the same outbuilding as my radio room and train layout. I make furniture and lots and lots of sawdust! Traveling is something we do a lot more of now that I have the boat up for sale. We just like to take off and wander on back roads - since we are both retired, schedules are just a dim memory, thank goodness. Now that I look at that list, I just realized that model railroading is the cheapest of these hobbies - maybe I had better get in gear and accelerate the work on the layout! I'd really like to get into something like that but it looks to be somewhat expensive. As for my other hobbys- I play bass in a grunge/punk/rock band called Dirty Moe I edit video and audio on the computer both for the band and for my own projects. I'm an occasional paranormal investigator. And I spend a lot of time playing MicroSoft Train Simulator. This is all on top of working full time, going to school part time and spending "quality time" with the wife and daughter. I'm rarely bored. Re: What are your other hobbies? - Sumpter250 - 01-07-2009 Outside of Railroad......well, there's and and and and Then there's the black powder firearms, and the compound bow. Re: What are your other hobbies? - tetters - 01-07-2009 Dude! Where is the space craft with the Bill and Mug from? I also love the fighter ships. Are those bashed? Sweeeeet! Re: What are your other hobbies? - Sumpter250 - 01-07-2009 Quote:Dude! Where is the space craft with the Bill and Mug from? I also love the fighter ships. Are those bashed? The "space craft" is a 49" long "creation" based loosely on the first Battlestar Galactica. The "bill", and the "Mug", were there for a size comparison. The first "fighter" is bashed from a 1/48 scale F101 VooDoo kit, the second, from an AH-64 Apache helicopter kit. Have caught a lot of fish from it , too - just don't really want to know how much they actually cost me per pound.........LOL! The 0-4-0 is made for both O gauge and G, yes, those are a tad pricey. Re: What are your other hobbies? - Jim From MT - 01-08-2009 I'm one of those people who have more hobbies than I do time and money. I used to do scuba diving in my younger years. When I worked in Saudi Arabia it was my only hobby. Loved that 80 degree water in the Red Sea. I have a sailboat, which is strictly a summer hobby here in MT. The lake is frozen over at present. Avaition was my profession and hobby and I still try to keep up with developments. I have a hobby car project, a Pontiac Fiero. (don't everybody laugh at once). You will have to admit that it is a different vehicle. I could add more but thats the major hobbies in my life. As he's learned more about live steam, he's started selling ever more interesting (and therefore expensive!) models. The whole site is interesting from a toy standpoint (I'm also a fan of live steam), but this is probably one of the most relevant pages to this conversation. I know that a lot of people make fun of the Fiero, but they finally got it right in 1988, then canceled the car at the end of the year. Re: What are your other hobbies? - tomustang - 01-11-2009 A Fiero, that's awesome Jim. Are you going to put the northstar or LS1 in it? |
