  Nashville steam move streamed live
Posted by: ngauger - 01-12-2019, 08:21 AM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (2)

I received this in my Trains Magazine e-mail:
It's a Facebook link.

Nashville steam move streamed live

Join us starting at 7 a.m. Central on Jan. 13, 2019, for a Facebook Live event showing the relocation of Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis 4-8-4 No. 576 from Centennial Park to the Nashville & Western railroad. Watch this massive locomotive travel by multi-wheel trailer down city streets. The engine has been in the park since 1953 — watch it leave as it happens!

  Another LHS closes
Posted by: RobertInOntario - 01-11-2019, 09:16 PM - Forum: Equipment and Supply sources - Replies (2)

Not sure how many folks are Toronto-based, but I recently found out that one of my favourite LHS's is closing -- Hornet Hobbies (http://www.hornethobbies.com/)

I've been going there since 2004 and have really enjoyed the fellowship there. Their last day is this coming Sunday (Jan. 13). The main cause is problems caused by the construction of the Eglinton LRC, but there are 1-2 other factors as well. Details on their website.

Really sad to see them go. 20% sale until Sunday. I've been there a couple times this past week and it just feels sad to be there as the store winds down.

Just FYI and to commiserate with any other Ontario modellers who will miss them.

I tried to mark all forums read this morning and got an error message. This is the first time I have tried this function so it might not be a new problem.
It's no big deal but I have posts showing up that haven't had a new entry in ages so I thought I would try to clear them.

  St-Henri Junction Layout
Posted by: CNR5103 - 01-08-2019, 04:03 PM - Forum: Layouts - Replies (6)

I recently had a look at Layouts forum and discovered an interesting thread about doctorwayne's layout (https://bigbluetrains.com/showthread.php?tid=1050). I am following Wayne's work on different forums for some years now and I always appreciate to look at photos he is publishing. But I had never seen his layout. The thread enabled me to better appreciate what his is doing.

This thread gave me the idea to do the same thing. I don’t pretend here that my layout can be compared to Wayne's one. Far from that. St-Henri Junction is a small switching layout that is far from being completed. There is a lot to be done before it could be considered finished and even then it will not stand comparison with Wayne's one.

I took some photos from the front seat of a friend's recently restored Tiger Moth, a WW2 British primary trainer.

Before laying any tracks, I draw a plan of what I wanted. The initial plan evolved constantly though. Tracks were added, others removed and industries changed. The numbers on the plan refer to the order of photos.

1- The western staging yard (Turcot) located in a closet.

2- The exit of the staging yard to the layout. The gondolas on the right are on the interior track of ACME Wires & Cables.

3- ACME Wires & Cables and Montreal Cookies Mill.

4, 5- The Cannery, St-Henri Station and the CNR Depot with a Piggyback facility.

6- A-D Games (upper center) and Bob's Trucking.

7, 8-Bob's Trucking, National Textiles and Atlantic Seafood.

9- Leclerc Petroleum and SICO PAINTS.

10, 11-CHINIC Warehouse, Walker's Brewery and I.C. Cold Storage.

12- CNR Diesel maintenance facility and Saint-Laurence Grains.

13- Entrance of the Eastern staging yard (St-Lambert) and reverse loop.

14- Eastern staging yard.

15- Exit of the Eastern staging yard and reverse loop (behind CHINIC Warehouse).

Bar Mills The Gas Station at Shady Grove

Starting another new structure for the addition:

The Gas Station at shady grove. it's pretty small, only about 2 X 3" including the canopy. I was originally going to change the station's name but then I found that Texaco was in Canada so I guess I can keep it.

A new tank car for my roster
Posted by: CNR5103 - 01-05-2019, 03:12 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (4)

Few weeks ago, a friend modeler offered me an ACF Type 27 Riveted 10,000 Gallon Tank Car Intermountain kit. Although the fact that he is building gorgeous buildings, my friend is not fond in building cars and their thiny parts. The kit was bought in a train shown earlier and was identified as a PAM AM OIL tank car. I had no use of a PAN AM Oil tank car on my layout but couldn't refuse the offer. Upon opening the box, I was surprised to see that only the general markings were left on the car. With a careful inspection of the car I can see some very light marks that revealed that the initial owner had carefuly removed all markings specific to PAN AM. I would be very interested in knowing how he did such a good job.

The car was partly assembled by my friend. Only the smaller parts were left to be done. I decided to remove the molded on brake details and replace them with metal rods and pipings as I do with all the cars I now build. As I didn't need the data decals, I was able to use some decals left from a previous project.

After the application of Dullcoat, the light marks left after the removal of PAN AM markings disappeared completely.

  A Little Help Please
Posted by: pennman - 01-01-2019, 02:38 PM - Forum: DCC - Replies (6)

Just fired my layout up after a long time away, I was running 2 of my engines just a few laps and it seems they have lost there minds. My Kato GP35 just sits and hums with the lights on and my Kato GP30 ran a few laps and now its doing the same thing! should I flash and reprogram them? or do you think something else is up? I have several other engines that are running fine.
