  Smilies, new and old
Posted by: ezdays - 07-27-2018, 12:09 PM - Forum: Forum Announcements - Replies (2)

Two things, for those of you that use smilies, when we moved to the new software, a bunch of smilies came with it, and our old smilies wound up at the end of the list. We've moved our old ones to the top so a lot of them show without clicking on "[get more]". A few duplicates have been deleted since we had some 90 total.

Secondly, when we moved, some of our old smilies didn't show up as icons, rather they showed up as a name. We're working on trying to fix that, but so far, the only way to restore the icon, is to edit the post using the smily list, even if it means replacing it with the same named one. This obviously only affects posts that were created using the old phpBB software. If we find a better solution, we'll let you all know. 2285_

I like to build layouts but I do not want to dismantle my current HO US industrial switching layout.

The solution might be a small layout on the table top to to be stored on a wall cupboard when not in use. I think of dimension like 15 x 50" and light weight construction. HO is far out, N sounds better but 15" is not much to run a GP38..... but wait how about a trolley? That sounds good but there are no contemporary N scale US trolley models available from the mayor brands.

So lets go German this time. I start with a Duewag M6 train from the Bogestra railroad "Bochum - Gelsenkirchen Strassenbahn" and some Kato snap tracks.

N scale is really a bad challenge to my eyes and hands. We will see if I can teach old eyes and hands new tricks.....

I used Google streetview again to get a quick and easy background to get used to the new dimensions. Bad news, no Google streetview in Gelsenkirchen und Bochum is full of trees and parked trucks. Just like NYC two years ago :-)

A-B-A F3's to pull their first excursion
Posted by: e-paw - 07-25-2018, 05:35 PM - Forum: Tours, Events and Shows - Replies (4)

At the 2018 ARHS convention we will be displaying the fruits of our labors.

Our A-B-A set of Lackawanna F-3's,  ( the only F-3 trio in the world ) will provide the power for their first excursion as a 3  unit set from Scranton to the Tobyhanna army depot. This is all being done to celebrate the F's 70th birthday.  Tours, photo run buy's, and a BBQ are all part of the festivities... Just read the attached mailer.
We have spent countless hours restoring and operating these units over the years and now it's time to show them off. If you have followed my 1:1 scale modeling thread you know the work that we put into these engines. Membership is not required for attendance, Or you can just chase.... I will be riding with the engine crew as the mechanic, so stop by and say hi.

  Mix ratio for Tru-colors paint?
Posted by: twilight - 07-22-2018, 07:34 AM - Forum: Engineer's Technical Workshop - Replies (8)

I've been working on some F&C kits lately. Got to the point for painting and figured I'd give Tru-colors paint try again(They had the prototypical color for this particular boxcar). Tried paint directly out of bottle in my air brush as stated it can be used. Paint came out dry and caused a rough surface( I should have experimented on a scrap piece of styrene or something. Lesson learned). So, boxcar has been stripped and I am preparing to paint it again.

Anyone use Tru-colors a on a regular basis and have a ratio for paint and thinner that seems to work well? I did pick up a bottle of Tru-colors thinner, so I have that on hand.

Thx,
Mark

How to add photos to your posts
Posted by: ezdays - 07-18-2018, 01:45 PM - Forum: ezdays (Don) - Replies (3)

It takes about the same number of steps to add a photo to your posts as it did on our old phpBB forum. As with the old forum software, you cannot gang upload more than one photo at a time, sorry about that, but we don't write the software so we have to use what we get.

Step 1, anytime you are composing your post, you can scroll down to the bottom of the composition window and click on, "browse", as shown.

Step 2, You will be taken to your computer where you can click on the file you want to upload, then click on, "open". Your screen should like this with your file shown on the left. You then need to click on  the, "add attachment" button:

Step 3, You should see your photo name on a separate line as shown:

Step 4,You can repeat step 1-3 to upload more photos to your post. You can do this for up to 25 photos, but a post with a lot more than 10 or 12 photos should really be broken up into several posts for ease of viewing.  When you have them all uploaded, your screen should look something like this:

Step 5, you can place the cursor anywhere in the text field of your post and click on the, "Insert Into Post" button corresponding to the photo that you want to insert in that spot.  Repeat for all your posts and they can be in any order that you choose. If you just want your photos to just be placed at the end of you post, than just skip this step and that's where they will appear. The results should look somewhat like this:

Step 6, After you've clicked on the, "Post Thread", button, the example post I've been using came out looking like this:

Just a few basic things to help get around
Posted by: ezdays - 07-18-2018, 10:45 AM - Forum: Forum how to's, getting around and features - No Replies

We just opened this new sub-forum to help everyone get around the new MyBB software that we're using. We had a similar bunch of threads on our old forum and it occurred to us that some procedures are different, so if something isn't working the way you think it should, such as posting photos or setting up your profile, stop by here and we hope we have enough info to help you. We will be adding threads as quickly as we can, so bear with us as we construct these threads.
