  Limits on attachments?
Posted by: doctorwayne - 07-17-2018, 03:26 PM - Forum: Forums Issues, requests, and FAQ - Replies (7)

I'm trying to reconstruct a thread, where the Forum move has resulted in the illustrative photos ending-up in the wrong places within the text....in other words, the photos don't match their descriptions.

While the original thread had 14 or 15 photos, I've managed to re-insert, in their correct places, only 10.  The eleventh one has been appended to the end of the thread, and it appears that even if I can add all of the other missing ones, they'll also end up in the wrong place.  The entire procedure is more labour intensive than the old Forum, and a limit on photos isn't, in my opinion, a good thing.  It certainly doesn't encourage us to show what we're doing.

While I still have a viable photobucket account, and could add the pictures from there, when I kick my own personal bucket, those will disappear.  This is not very conducive to leaving something which may be useful to others in the future.  I do, of course, realise that this medium is at best temporal, so perhaps I'm over-reacting.

  55n3 Reboot -Proof of Concept
Posted by: hminky - 07-10-2018, 11:28 AM - Forum: hminky - Replies (24)

The first 55n3 site was put on the web in 2010. Due to medical problems I couldn't pursue this endeavor further. Time went by and I let the domain lapse. Now my medical problems have been under control, none of which were life threatening, just debilitating.

Been in and out of the hobby since 2010 and can't believe how such a short period has brought so much change. Most of the items discussed on the 55n3 website are no longer available and have to be sourced on E-bay.

I write web-articles on the net. The satisfaction comes not in praise or an "atta-boy" post but someone using the information that was presented. It is nice to see someone applying the techniques that I bloviated about even if no credit is given to me. Stuff comes up in magazines that I recognize as my contribution to the hobby.

It was warming to see Ronald Halma's American Civil War 55n3 Layout on the net. Ronald showed the concept of 28mm war gaming items and On30 Bachmann equipment is a viable concept.

Thank you, Ronald

Vist Ronald's blog:

There are videos of Ronald's efforts two at:

Our 55n3 website is now 55n3.info and no longer 55n3.org

28mm gaming has grown and there are more figures and vehicles available.

[attachment=28885]Hello Everyone---recently I've been using some of my photographs as backdrops. My printer makes copies that appear a bit hazy or muted but I like the effect.I simply paste the copy onto a piece of card-stock and place a locomotive in front of the picture to create a scene. Here's some samples

F&C/FEBT East Broad Top passenger cars question
Posted by: twilight - 07-07-2018, 07:58 PM - Forum: Narrow Gauge, Logging and Mining - Replies (1)

Put on your memory caps....

Years ago the Freinds of the East Broad Top (FEBT) worked with Funaro & Camerlengo to produce some EBT rolling stock. I have two passenger cars, both are combines 14 & 15. Does anyone know if F&C/FEBT produced any of the other passenger equipment in HOn3? Seems, I can find some info online that cars 8, 10, 11 may have been produced in On3. But, nothing for Hon3.

Thx for your help,
Mark

Sorry, no construction images. My memory card did not want to find them....
Wood structure kit from Scale Structures limited.
The Dinky Creek bridge in HOn3.
All rivets and fittings are in metal .... Painting all the metal parts and drilling holes for 600+ NBWs is a bit of therapy.

  Track cleaning cars
Posted by: faraway - 07-06-2018, 01:24 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (8)

Walthers offers some track cleaning boxcars in the Mainline series. I tried one and it worked very well. It learned the car runs fine in a train and the car could be switches without hassles too. But the various shells are plain awful and did not match my contemporary layout.

- The shell of Athearn 40' high cube boxcars fits with little adaption. I sprayed two of them dark brown similar to the current NS boxcars. They are still a phantasy car but fits quite nice into the layout scenery (after some decals are added).

- Two short but heavy CSX scrap cars adopted to the track cleaning device with little work.

The four track cleaning cars will be placed on each train in my  four track staging yard and go with each local freight train over the mainline as it serves the industry.

  Cure "Exploding" N-Scale Accumates

Never had an Accumate "explode" but it has been suggested on the Web. I was just fixing a cover that wouldn't stay on the truck.
