  Real life model railroading
Posted by: Lester Perry - 05-29-2018, 08:45 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (5)

September 2017 I was informed that NMRA wanted to do a video and photo article of my layout. I said sure thing, how often do I get a request like that? Well the date was set it coincided with open house schedule, everything would be in tip top shape and running great for open house. The date was either one week before my first open house or one week after the last. (don't remember which) Anyway they canceled out at the last minute, don't remember why. didn't matter anyway. I mean clean up and fine tuning was done for open house. They said they would try another time I was fine with that.
Well about 3 or 4 weeks ago I decided to do dome major (to me) remodeling in my train shed as it is called. So now I have a major mess. dust flying every where. Sunday evening week before last I got a call from you will never guess who. No not President Trump. They wanted to try this again. I said sure when, they said how about Thursday Eek .better yet they wanted morning. I explained my situation and reluctantly said sure why not. I doubt if it will run but sure. Well about an hour later I got another call they said make it late afternoon. They showed up nothing would run. Picked switches that I never had trouble with before and about a six foot stretch of main line was dead. I apologized and they left with some messed up video and I hope some fair still pics. to put in their collection. We all smiled shook hands and they left. I say this to say this

  Need input from you all

OK, we're kind of settled with what we have using the new software. We are trying to get it tailored to feel and work like the old one, but with a few cosmetic updates. Now that we've all had a chance to use it for a few weeks, we need some feedback on what we need to change or add. No guarantees that we can do it, but we'd like you to list anything that you think is missing, doesn't work the way you think it should, or a feature that you can do without. We are open to any and all suggestions, and we will try our best to accommodate those that we can. We are limited to what the software is capable of, but there are some plug-ins that we can use to add or modify features.

I will start things off by suggesting that we should have a link to "List unread posts", like we had with the old phpBB software.

Los Angeles Junction Ry Plan-First Module
Posted by: lajry - 05-22-2018, 01:14 PM - Forum: Modular Modeling - Replies (27)

Having moved from Bellflower to Santa Fe Springs CA had to come up with a new plan for this apartment. Living in an apartment it will be modular since can't build anything permanent. But wanting to get something going came up with this plan plus switching info. Some will say it's too crowded but the real LAJ is just like this. There's 64 miles of track & industries crammed into a 2 x 5 square mile area.  Only going to be doing the LAJ on the west side of the LA River. Will only be doing about 7 Switch Lead, 1 yard & Santa Fe's Vernon Team as it's right next door to LAJ's Fruitland Team. Will also have a staging yard.

  1960 Era Layout
Posted by: Brakie - 05-20-2018, 04:29 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (4)

Fellas,While visiting a local HO club today a bizzare subject came up and I wonder what your thoughts would be.
Is it possible to build a 1960 era layout in 2018 using Atlas brass or nickel silver  track and a MRC 501 Throttle Pack? Guide lines and scenery techniques for layouts of that era would need to be followed.

I believe it can be done since a lot of 50/60 era cars and locomotives can be found on e-Bay and at train shows.
Three of the 20 something members thought it would be a cool idea for a hobby heritage display layout.
Before the "why" part was discuss it was time to start operation.

A few setting upgrades and changes
Posted by: ezdays - 05-13-2018, 07:44 AM - Forum: Forums Issues, requests, and FAQ - No Replies

As we go along, there are a lot of slight  tweaks and options that we're changing. Some are global, some will give you choices to make. Right now we've made the following:

All attachments will now show as full-size photos rather than thumbnails (global)

You can select how a post is displayed with the poster's information across the top or on the side as we had before. To have it displayed on the left of the post, you can go to your UserCP, click on "edit options", then check the box marked, "display posts in classic mode" then go to the bottom of the page and click on "update options"/

Things I miss or can't find
Posted by: FiatFan - 05-11-2018, 06:20 AM - Forum: Forums Issues, requests, and FAQ - Replies (33)

So far the only thing I can't find (possibly because it doesn't exist) is the "Mark all Forums read" button on the front page.

Are there plans to make the new forum colors look more like the old one?  Not a fan of the color scheme but I can live with it.

Tom
