Just collecting some of Pete's photos to add to this thread.

My new Digitrx LNWI (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.digitrax.com/products/wireless/lnwi/">http://www.digitrax.com/products/wireless/lnwi/</a><!-- m -->) arrived today. I plugged it into the LocoNet bus and and the little power supply in the power outlet and the physical installation was complete. An old iPod (bought in 2011 and used on our US trip) is used as the new handheld remote control. The App got installed and the WiFi selection changed from my home net to the LNWI and everything was up and running.

It works great and the installation is as smooth and simple as advertised.

It will be less used to replace my two UT4 hand controls but the iPod is very handy while testing engines on my work desk on the other side of the room.

I am playing with a possible Freelance 2018-2 on the same bench and track work (sounds familiar to you ) as Freelance 2018-1 but with a "brick scenery" in the 1980s (true blue Conrail !). I am trying to stay with foam board structures but this time wallpapered with "Radical Flat" images. I am also learning what needs to be done with that kind of brick structures to get a 3D imagination.

I use Radical Flats images since a long time. Some time ago were my images from multiple use worn out and I ordered some sets as replacement. That was my luck, shortly after that time Radical Flats discontinued that series. I keep them like a treasure and work with copies only.

The first test front has the windows recessed by 2mm and the vertical pillars are doubled on back card stock.
I scanned and printed a first test with 600 DPI. That resulted in huge files and an awful long print time. This one is scaled down to 150 DPI, is easy to handle, prints fast and looks the same.

Are palm trees mandatory for a freelance Florida industry switching layout ? ;-)

I've finished the Sunset models K-27 as number 461.
It has a Tsunami decoder installed.
I painted it with a green boiler just because....


Here's my collection of K-27's:

#452, 455, 460, 461 and 463.
One of these are not like the others though. As one isn't a brass engine.
Which one?

Switches may be equipped with a "Circuit Controller" such as U-5 or SC-100 to detect the switch blade position and close or open electric contacts. There are may different uses for those devices attached to the switch.
I have a specific question about "the other" equipment involved if a circuit controller is used to signal the position of a hand thrown switch in the mainline to the dispatcher.
The circuit controller is mounted to the switch. What else is installed at or close by the switch to transmit the information to the dispatcher far away?
I guess there is a box with a radio transmitter, an antenna and may be even a batterie pack as backup.

Can you point me to photos of that equipment (radio transmitter, antenna etc.)?

I do not ask for photos of the circuit controllers. I found them with tons of photos and information (e.g. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.raildev.com/sc100.html">http://www.raildev.com/sc100.html</a><!-- m -->) and plan to install them on two switches but I can not find a link to the local equipment triggered to send the information to the remote dispatcher.

I'm working on a small 1x4' shelf switching layout. The layout is coming along well & I'm pleased with it. All of its turnouts are either made by Peco or Hornby*, except one, which is a Y turnout made by Atlas. I'm having problems with the latter -- all of my newer locos pass through this turnout OK, but I'm having trouble with my older ones. The older ones either derail or stall as soon as they touch the guard rail of this Atlas Y turnout. As soon as they hit the guard rail, you can see their wheels rise up as if they're trying to drive over the guard rail.

My theory is that, b/c the wheels/flanges of these older locos are coarser, they are too thick to pass between the rail and the guard rail. As a result, the wheels either get stuck or get pushed up over the guard rail. To solve this, should I try to slightly widen the space between the rail & the guard rail, or should I lightly sand down this plastic guard rail? Just want to check first before I possibly wreck this turnout with my surgery. Thanks in advance.

*(FYI, this is a British layout, which is why I've ended up using some Hornby track. Hornby & Peco track and turnouts are excellent, but I've had problems with Atlas turnouts several years ago. In recent years, they've seemed to be better, so I thought I'd be OK to use one now.)
