Hi all,
I've had a retina problem with my left eye since June 11. Long story short, I've now had 4-5 laser surgeries since then and one other procedure. Each time, the doctors thought they'd fixed the problem but it kept worsening and my retina was actually detaching. So, two days ago, I had full day surgery on this eye and the doctors have assured me that the retina is now back in its correct position and well-lasered in. I now have a large gas bubble in my eye which will last 2 months -- it's intended to keep holding and pushing the retina back into place. I won't be able to drive for about two weeks.
Neighbours and friends have been great in terms of driving me around, but I thought I'd try Uber so I can be a little more independent. Has anyone -- especially those living in Canada and in the Toronto area -- used Uber and have any feedback? I've signed up and gone to their website but it seems really expensive, i.e. $10-15 to just go a few miles and around $20-25 to go about 5-10 miles.
Please note that I'm not at all Uber and taxi savvy, as the last time I used a taxi of any sort was in 2012! I'm so used to driving myself around.
I've had to take a lot of time off work during July, so this has given me a bit more time to work on my N scale layout.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Rob

Well it's been a few years I think since I've really posted and man has it been a busy few years. I purchased my first house and my layout is still back at the old place, after over a year since I've touched it I've gotten the itch to do something with trains again unfortunately there's no room to have a layout yet at my new place. So I brought some stuff home to build a small diorama and maybe try my hand at weathering some of my cars and locos in the meantime. I guess this post is mostly to say hi again and that I'd like to see lots of pictures because this site is my new source of fulfilling my model railroad needs!
Oh and I should probably point out that I purchased a house along some railroad tracks!

My Conrail dedication does not rest and I need to run some "true blue" engines. The geography of Freelance 2017-2 inspired by the Bronx is fine but the time needs to be changed into the 1980s (I prefer the plain blue scheme without the quality scheme, quality should be in the product and not on the outside ;-). )
Following the usual "Bronx 1980s" standards should that result in a scenery of burned and devastated buildings.

Wikipedia writes
"the South Bronx was considered one of the most blighted urban areas in the country, with a loss of 60% of the population and 40% of housing units"
But that means there must be some documentation of 60% of the structures still in place!
I found this side http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=222552 concentrating on the the other aspects of the Bronx. It shows very interesting street views and structures like this

It has a lot in common with the area in central Hamburg where I grow up. The mix of buildings and waste land due to destruction is quite similar.
I will certainly need some help from older New Yorkers and ask one or more questions over the time.
My topic for today is swapping street and rail cars. That is the easy beginning.
