I’ve been having a current / short problem with my fairly new DC British N-scale layout. Please see the photo below.

Basically, this 32” wide by 68” long layout consists of an outer and inner loop. On the inner loop, I cannot get any electrical current to flow down the inside siding (top right) where the red arrows end on this photo. So whenever the points at the top right, are switched so that locos should travel down the sidings (indicated by the red arrows) the power completely stops or goes week. It stops and sometimes the red “short out” light lights up on my transformer. Here are a few other points:

— no matter where a train is on the inner loop, the power completely stops (or goes very weak) once I adjust the points to open up this siding
— occasionally, trains will very slowly move closer to the siding but usually they stop completely (and then the red short-out light will come on).
— the odd thing is that — about a week ago -- I was successfully getting power down these sidings so I could run locos in & out from them. Then, for some reason, this stopped a few days ago. (As far as I know, everything is the same on the layout; no changes.)
— FYI, the transformer connectors join the track just in the lower left area, but are just cropped out of this pic.

I’m running out of ideas to solve this and getting frustrated! I can provide more info as needed. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,

I'm actually researching an acoustical ceiling tiles plant in my area. I found documents from the plant describing the raw materials used to manufacture their product. Until the the 80s, they were rail served. Among the materials is wax emulsion. Unfortunately, my searches led me nowhere and I could find info about this material being carried by rail. Anybody ever heard of wax emulsion transported by rail? If yes, let me know, I'm a little bit curious.

WPMA-17 had a light day with no work at Agway and had finished working Peter Lumber when I arrived. Caught them coming off of the Agway Siding on their way back to the yard.

Greetings one and all. Not a spammer!! Just a new guy who has been model railroading for more years than I can remember. I am on my, 8th, I think, layout. But this one will be the last as we have downsized to an apartment and won't be getting anything larger.

A bit about me. 63 years old. Currently live in Jacksonville Fl, but will be retiring in another 16 months and moving to Muskegon Mi. Yes, thats right. Moving from Florida to Michigan. I know thats bass ackwards, but there is good reason for it. I model HO. Dabbled in N briefly but prefer HO. Modeled primarily ACL and CSX in Florida, but have recently decided I needed a change so all the ACL and CSX stuff went to EBay and I bought a couple of Milwaukee Road engines. Also changed locales completely. Very loosely modeling Goose Island in Chicago. Proto Free Lancing is how its descrbed. Using the area but free lancing operations to make it a bit more interesting.

On that note I also was tipped off that a user here, Faraway, has done a very nice job of modeling the Morton Salt plant just outside Chicago, which coincidentially I am also planning to model. Faraway, if you are reading this, I would really appreciate you getting in touch with me so I can pick your brain as to how you model that structure. I will have to compress it somewhat since I don't have 5.5 feet to devote to it, but I can make a pretty good representation.

Just an update on what's going on in the background. As most of you know, we've had a rash of spammers hit us these past few weeks, so we've taken a few measures to combat them. First of all, we've change the registration process a bit to deter bots from registering, and it's helped a lot. Secondly, if a spammer gets through and tries to post, their post will be moderated. That is, it will be reviewed by a moderator or admin before being posted. If they're a good guy, they can go ahead and post at will from then on. If they're a bad guy, well, we know how to deal with those types.

We are sorry we've had to do this, you can thank Mr. Spammer and friends for this, but it's kept us clean of spam for a while now. Unfortunately, real members trying to post for the first time will have to wait a bit before their first posts are moderated through. We hope you all understand.

What can I use to remove fingerprints from my finished hopper cars . I discovered them this morning when I was putting the coal loads in. Hopper cars have already been weathered. looks like the prints were left from my oily fingers. I don't want to damage the weathering and I'm trying to avoid a re-paint.
