Tonnage Ratings in Loco Model Names?
Posted by: Amalynn - 05-03-2016, 09:08 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (11)

I wasn't sure where exactly to ask, so this seemed the best place to put this. I wanted to ask what it means when a locomotive model has a tonnage marked in the name. For instance, GE 44-tonners, GE 70-tonners, a 26T Plymouth, a 10T Plymouth, etc. Is that the weight of the locomotive? Or the amount of weight it is able to pull?

Ok, it seems that a number of you didn't realize for some time that 2011 was a year. 2012 is also the year in which the photos were taken. Enjoy!

  Back up, 5-2-16
Posted by: ezdays - 05-02-2016, 06:20 PM - Forum: Forum Announcements - Replies (6)

For those of you that were concerned, yes, we were down for a few hours today. Our database got screwed up a bit and Packey had to give it a kick start. He also needed some time to do a backup, but he did what he needed to do and we're back on the air once again. Cheers

Thanks for your patience, we all hate to have Big Blue taken away, even for just a few hours.

  Atlas CN Geeps?

Anybody know a good source for Atlas CN Geeps in HO? DC or sound is fine, but I'm looking for narrow cab only. IC or GT patch jobs would be good also. Thanks.

  Unsafe crossings-top of the list
Posted by: ezdays - 04-25-2016, 09:19 AM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (19)

They just released a study an listed the most unsafe crossings in the US. Just to paint the picture, the BNSF mainline runs parallel to Grand Ave. (US60) starting just south of Wickenburg and ending near downtown Phoenix. That's about a 40 mile run, and there are probably two dozen or more crossings there. The study shows that out of the top 13 unsafe crossings, 5 of them are those that cross this track, 3 in Phoenix, 2 in Glendale. This is based on the number of incidents at these crossings. There are about 3 in Sun City that didn't make it high on the list though. We use these frequently and know that these all have room for just one or two vehicles between the tracks and Grand Ave. Anyone trying to squeeze a second car or even not fully pulled though, can and do get wiped out by one of the frequent trains. I'm not sure which came first, the tracks or US60, but it used to be the only route between Phoenix and Los Angeles for both cars and trains.

Just a point to let you all know that our railroads here are still in the news. :wait:

Got a new Badger Sotar 20/20 airbrush on Friday. Unpacked it and did a quick weathering test on a couple of new Accurail boxcars with it. What an awesome airbrush!!!
