Active topics - seen only with login?
Posted by: modelsof1900 - 04-21-2016, 02:27 PM - Forum: Forum Problems and Requests - Replies (6)

Hallo admins,
I have a prpbem since a few days, maybe two or three weeks.
My standard bookmark for Big Blue is saved as search on "View aktive topics" and regulerly I'm not logged in when I use this bookmark for a fast view on new or changed topics. And so Big Blue was working all the times where I’m a member.
Since two or three weeks now I receive with identic conditions the answer “Sorry but you are not permitted to use the search system.” The reason is that I’m not logged in at this moment! After a login the search for active topics works again like all times before. However I would not be constrained to log in in order to see these active topics and I'm not lucky with the system in this present form!
Please let my know if this change is your intention or is this a small bug only together with another change of system?
I would be lucky if the old condition would be installed again, please.
And thanks for your answer!

  Rail Salvage Operations

Has anyone modeled a salvage operation? I've seen numerous photos of work trains taking up the abandoned narrow gauge tracks in Colorado.

While the mainline of the Grand Valley's northern extension is in-service, not much else is. :wait:
Here, a train approaches the almost-completed station at Park Head:

Chronically short of power, helpers for the lines many steep grades come from various sources, some rather unusual...

The station at Mount Forest, the northern end of the line, is also almost finished, but there's not really any town to support it...

...nor is there much industry to support the town, although construction is underway...

Has anyone ever tried to put a sound speaker in a Bachmann GP30? Didn't see anything when I searched the site.

Thx,
Mark

no time no space no money try an iphone micro layout
Posted by: franckcombe - 04-13-2016, 06:10 AM - Forum: N/Z and Smaller Modeling - Replies (7)

When you are starved of space, money and time or if you want to do in a different manner, try a micro layout on a n Iphone case.

In paralell to my layout sidi fontana, I want to explore another scale and another way to do. The layout is at n scale.

In the past I have done also a pizza layout but at gn15 scale.

The Iphone case is from M. Kobayashi, the locomotive is a japaneese one (7 tons) from TGW.

I will add a building as the backdrop, I will do snow and the layout will be located in Japan.

  Freelance 2016-2
Posted by: faraway - 04-10-2016, 04:21 PM - Forum: Layouts - Replies (182)

I am ready for the 1970s and early 80s with brick industries again.

The initial start is as usual a swap of engines, rail and street cars and structures with old Kingmill backdrop buildings. It is not a "layout" anymore but it serves as a testbed for my own imagination. The layout will be transformed lot by lot. No track changes are planned so far. I saved a lot of brick buildings in the basement. That should help to keep the cost at a nice level.

My hobby and layout room may be refurbished next year. That would be a perfect event to start a new layout from scratch.

ps. I understood Kingmill is virtually out of business not selling anything else than some software. I bought two sets of backdrops about one years ago just in case and saved it away. Lucky me.

This is one of two projects that I started working on yesterday. The other on being a USRA 2-10-2, in the background. These are smaller jobs that will hopefully not take that long,,I need a break after my almost two year build of a CNJ Backtrack Mike.

I am looking for something like this in the end.

I have to find out what date the headlight visor, in one of the photos, and the black roof paint was applied to see if in fits into my era.

It's an ABA set consisting of one undecorated, two headlight, A units and a former NYC A & B, that I have already striped the paint from. All three are Stewart models. The two "A's" are powered and the "B" is a dummy.
In the above photo you can see I added the supports visible in the porthole windows.
The end steps have been removed as pre Lackawanna practices and the extra headlight filled in on the undecorated model.

I had to reposition the headlight LED on the dual headlight unit as well and in it's place wire in a red LED that only comes on in reverse.

Using a set of drawings that my historical society owns. I built a set of number boards for under the nose. I had posted them here once before under this thread.

The DL&W B-units were what EMC called a FTSB, or FT short booster. These lacked the steam generators found in passenger units and were a few feet shorter then the others. Stewart only offers the longer version, so some body work is in order.
