I have a few ho scale vehicles I plan on kitbashing and detailing. I'm going to post these projects here.
I assembled a Mack R refrigerated truck using an Athearn cement truck chassis and Mack cab and a Boley refrigerated body. There's a few details that need to be painted and if I can find a suitable set of decals I'll add those too. Also a picture I found for reference.
For a friend I reworked a defect train end light. See the video.
This all can you do also on a DCC layout without a decoder and without battery. I will install this on my brass caboose in next time.
At long last, after many false starts and life events interrupting things, I am happy to announce that Marlpost is coming to life.
Originally conceived over 10 years ago after my return to model railroading as an adult, I started reading Ian Wilson's Steam... books. At that point I knew I wanted to do a small, rural town served by Canadian National. My chosen era is loosely defined as "between the wars", so encompasses both the prosperity of the Roaring '20s and the Great Depression.
Marlpost has a number of industries common to small towns across the province. Coal & fuel, grain elevator, stock pen, and team track. Railway facilities include the station, water tank, and a small speeder & maintenance shed. All these building are grouped around the main, double ended siding, and two stub ended sidings. One facing comes off the main to the elevator and the other off the runaround to the stock pen.
The main street in Marlpost runs across the west end of the "yard". There's a gas station, stores, probably a bank, and other buildings yet to be built. The whole thing sits on two 6' X 2' modules.
The biggest issue I had was resisting the urge to cram in all the industries I have. So waiting for another module will be Hamilton-Paice, a mid-sized industrial building with ties to Gern , a milk depot, and various other buildings that don't have a home. Keeping the track plan under control was highly influenced by Trevor Marshall's Pory Rowan in S Scale blog, especially the Achievable Layouts portion.
So at long last, here is the first "new" view of the town. From left to right you can see the station (stand in salvaged from a Christmas layout), team track ramp (one of my first scratch builds with Popsicle sticks and matches), a cardboard mockup of the grain elevator with accompanying scale house, and the end of the coal shed.

Does anyone know where I can find 1/87 HO scale NJ Trooper police car decals? I've been looking for the Busch models Nj trooper Caprice but have had no luck. I figure I could try a 3D printer Crown Vic if there are decals available.
I have a bit of a conumdrum. The loco is a Bachmann SD40-2,which is DCC fitted. I want a loco with sound and this beast is a nightmare. The DCC board has 2 screws holding it down and its hardwired to the chassis. The chassis itself fills the body shell. I have advertised it for sale, but no takers so far. So. Do I withdraw the loco or bite the bullet and go for it. I don't know whether or not a Loksound Direct or a Tsunami TSU 1000 would be the better decoder. The chassis would have to cut for a decent speaker but as it's got so much weight I don't think that would be an issue. Any ideas would be welcome. The layout I'm building doesn't allow long, high speed trains, just a lot of switching.

As im in the modern era of growing up I have a shout of doubt of what the golden era rail industries were other than coal dealers - lumber and grain. Can anyone paint a picture of what was back then? Also what they shipped and or received.
