  BCR MLW RS18 #615
Posted by: Twist - 01-02-2016, 08:06 AM - Forum: Scratchbuilding and kitbashing - All Scales - Replies (3)

Happy new Year to you.

I started a new and for me first time projekt. As I wrote on another post I need some RS18 for my BCR Fleet. The first on will be #615
http://www.cnrphotos.com/gallery2/main.p...emId=49202

Inspired by Matt´s build I started with the undecorated shell of an Atlas RS32, filled the corner notches with some sheet and glued it together and to the shell. I sanded it in shape. The BCR version is different in some details from the CN/CPR versions I know so there will be some more scratchbuilding. There is a big round headlight above the window and on the long hood end between the numberboards and above that sits the dual headlight. The windshield is splitted and the bell is next to the headlight above the frontwindow. Here are the first pictures of my start.

[Image: yOe_IRKseV3211KnzEH2Ai_E5xbTWnEC1G13ebGR...41-h755-no]

I have two RS11 cabs to use with the low hood RS18´s and I´ll use the Cab of the Trainman RS32 for the high hood version. Finally I will have 3 RS18 #604, #615 and another one with low hood for my fleet. I will send out my order to miniatures by eric tomorrow and hope I have all needed part in order.
More progress on this and maybe the others will follow, soon.

Any tips and ideas are very appreciated,

Regards,Chris

  Mexican Alco kitbash
Posted by: Catt - 12-31-2015, 10:56 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (21)

Built this in 1979 when I was just getting my first HO layout together. The prototype was a kit bash by a Mexican railroad to repair a wreck damaged Alco locomotive.Other thanthat it was totally freelanced and admittedly rather crude. When I switched over to N scale in the mid 1990s I thought I trashed this monster, but while doing some cleaning in the basement storage room I found it.

In tried searching for proto pictures tonight but it has been so long I do not remember the name of the railroad. At the present time it is pure TYCO but I am thinking of replacing the cab part with a Athearn blue box part. Most likely it will require a custom chassis.but I figure I can take my time and just work on it every now and then .Anyway here's a pic.

I really hate to get rid of those classy couplers but I think I will survive their loss.

  Operating Lionel cars, post war.

I have a question for someone about these cars. When I place them on the uncoupling/unloading track when I use the unloading button the coils to the couplers energize also and draw power from the operating solenoids. Is this normal or is there something going on I should look at. These cars are from 1948, the year before magnetic couplers. I haven't been able to locate a simple explanation of how the uncoupling/unloading track is supposed to work. Anything would be a help.

Thanks.
Charlie

  Sebring, Ohio Model Railroad.
Posted by: Charlie B - 12-30-2015, 01:37 PM - Forum: Shutterbug area - No Replies

My friend Kevin (railcop) and his friend and I were out and about yesterday and caught the Sebring, Ohio model railroad open so we went in. It was very impressive. It is located in the old PRR railroad station. You can see pictures here. I wish I had taken more, but, we were busy talking. Great guys running there.
