Have been trying to add this as my avatar but not being too computer savy, can't make it happen. Keeps saying it's too large. Have reduced it down to practically nothing (I think) but it still says its too large. Have been able to use the full size version on other forums.Can you help?

This thread will follow a door layout design and build to re-produce the look of Las Cruces New Mexico and Rincon New Mexico. This will be a movable display for the Southern New Mexico N Scalers club.

A guy in town was cleaning out his basement and gave this to me. It was never finished, but it is in rough shape. I will see what I can do with it. Here is how it looked when I got it.

Hi guys, well I need to call upon your skills once again. For all the help I've received in the past, I've done a pretty good job (I think) on my double deck layout (I've only started, but hey it's better than nothing =-).

I've run into a slight problem (probably pretty common), but I can't find a way around it. I've looked in my issues of Model Railroader and well, that's why I'm here. Here's what I've got. I recently started to add buildings to my layout. I'm trying to build up turf (ground cover) if you prefer to call it, around the structures and by the track but I've ran into a snag. I'm using scenic cement and Woodland Scenics Fine Turf Earth. I'll have an open area, saturate it with the scenic cement, and then spread the fine turf on. Now, after the fine turf dries (usually 24 hours), I'll take a paintbrush and brush off the excess (whatever didn't stick). When I noticed that I needed to add more ground turf to the first layer (some spots would be a little light) I would spray more scenic cement down...and that's when the problem starts Even if I stay back a good 3-4 feet from the layout, when the scenic cement would hit the turf, it would start to clump it up. What am I doing wrong? :? I can't seem to be able to add additional layers without some clumping - then it becomes a real pain because I can't get a realistic looking ground without having mini chunks of ground turf everywhere. I'm using a Scenic Spray bottle. Could that type of spray bottle be the problem in itself? I've used numerous scenic spray bottles, but the problem still remains. Also, with that said, how do I seal it all in when I'm done? I've got a 2 year-old future model railroader in our house, and I don't want to get ground cover all over the place (let alone have a derailment and get my cars or engines gooped up.

Any help as usual will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

OK , fellow modelers , I have a half bag of grass seed left over and like many crazy model railroaders , I'm wondering if I could use it on the layout ( HO ) . It's beige or maize in colour and is about knee high in length on an HO figure .

Any brainstorms ?

Seems like it has been awhile since we have had a model related challenge on the site?

Would a Labor Day to New Years Day challenge be a good time frame?

How about a Pizza Box challenge or 12"x12"? You can build in whatever scale you want but the base has to fit into a medium pizza box, bonus points for starting with an actual pizza box or doing the entire challenge while eating pizza ( must have photographic proof)

What are your guys thoughts?

After posting a post on one of the threads here I recalled a series of a photos from Stockholm I took from the yard of Liljeholmen that begs to be modeled. Unfortunaly I don't have the right space for it but I would like to share them anyway. Back at the beginning it was a part of the main line but as the line was relocated, it became a switching branch to serve the industries that replaced the railroad shops. It was operational until it was to be a serving depot for the new light rail serving the city. Once up on the time the line was busy enough to be using electric switcher but at least the 1980.s the catenary was removed albeit the masts that carried them. Interestingly enough the yard was "J" shaped where in the bow in the bottom of the "j" was a yard to serve the freight house and team track(s) with one track extended to serve a modern cement plant along waterfront at the very end of the bow.

At the opposing end, there was a tunnel to the larger yard and switching area for more industries and terminals which connected the line to the main line. Also there was a track branching of in a switch back to serve a small port where a liquor warehouse/plant is located. By the time of the photos the line was shut down and the old warehouses where underway to replaced by more modern office buildings. The photos are not the best as back then I was not too comfortable with a camera and the weather was not that very good, I guess they are from 1987 or so, but I scanned them anyway and is part of my web site. for more photos, http://olaviahokas.com/railscenes/liljepix.html
