Over the past few months I've been kitbashing a Southern Pacific SW900E switcher, starting out from an old Lifelike SW1200 kit.
Several modifications and enhancements have been made to the shell,including a new Cannon cab, and a scratchbuild light cluster for front and rear, ESU loksound decoder with LED microled lights added.

After the demise of my previous layout, I'd been looking for inspiration for a new small switching layout. A thread here on Big Blue led me to Matco Reload, a transloading facility in Pompano Beach FL served by the Florida East Coast Railway.

FEC local 960 operates between Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Pompano Beach, FL where a spur off the FEC main leads to Matco Reload. A siding (run around) further along the lead enables reversals. The local can then shove into Matco and the other small industries.

I wanted a different type of layout plan from previous layouts. I've always liked the 'double inglenook' arrangement as it gives a lot of switching in a small area.

In the plan, there are two staging tracks, but, I've imagined they are actually one end of a siding (run around loop) with the other end further along the line. For this reason, the turnout used for the 2 tracks will be included in the scenicked portion of the layout.

The East Penn Traction Club is having its bi-annual convention at the Convention Center in center city Philadelphia. It is May 15-17, just two weeks away!

I will be there with the Heavy Electric group, hopefully with catenary on my module (though the others will need time to electrify). If you're near Philadelphia, come and stop in!

They have featured my MP54s on their website as well, so they are definitely not just about trolleys!

Hello, I´m building modules and using bridge tracks to joint those modules. Now I´m starting to ballast my tracks and I´d like to know how do you ballast your tracks on module joints. So how to ballast track on module joints?

I was out to the Illinois Railway Museum, in Union Il. yesterday. was having a great time until I stumbled across this:
   
I have never seen a truck like this, and have no idea what "type" of truck it is, and I couldn't find anyone at the museum who could tell me.
SO - - - I have to ask, What is it ? !? !? .......and does it exist in HO scale. I'd like to purchase/build/acquire a set of these, for one of my vanderbilt tenders.

While heading home from a Boy Scout scuba merit badge weekend, I was watching all along the UP mainline somewhere between Midland and Coahoma Texas. I usually see several long Intermodal trains from the west coast heading toward Ft Worth. I was about to pass another one in a siding up ahead when something was a little different than the familiar yellow and red monster diesels from The mighty UP.....wasn't sure what, but I kept going.....then I got to thinking to my self and I said "Self..you need to turn around and take a second look at that siding." So I did. Parked on the side of the road in rattlesnake country and headed off thru the thorns and bush in my flip flops and this is what I found.....

for a very long time now, I've been thinking about building a relatively modern N scale switching layout.
For the research, I bought several of Lance Mindheim´s books and, of course, visited his website more or less regularly.

I like his "East Rail" layout very much, but I always thought it would be nice and more flexible to have a runaround.

Here´s the original Mindheim-Plan:

9'8''x9'6'' in H0 scale.

Attached, you find my idea of the (for now) same plan with a long siding.
It´s N scale and about 7'7''x6'7''.

If I would build it, I'd have even more space available, so the planning could be done more generous.

What do you guys think? Nice idea or a case for the trashcan?
Do you like it? What would you change?
