I recently got a collection of 13 passenger cars off ebay.
4 athearn

7 Rivarossi

2 unknown vintage cars (anyone know the make of these? Wood floors, metal walls)


I decided to repaint and sell the athearn cars, and two of the Rivarossi's. The rest I'm repainting, doing a bit of detail work and displaying. Unfortunately I don't have a layout big enough to run them, but maybe someday.
There was one car that didn't need repainting, I think it has a factory paint job:

The rest were poorly painted, mostly with a brush. Included in my 'keep pile' are:
Heavyweight Pullman coach
Heavyweight Diner
Lightweight coach
lightweight sleeper roomette.
I stripped them all with easy-off oven cleaner. The fumes may be unpleasant but the paint falls right off.

I'm repainting the Pullman in Canadian pacific
Here's how it looked:

I shaved all the cast-on grabs, and added brass wire ones, then repainted it in Scalecoat CPR Tuscan red

I painted it at the same time as I painted my doodlebug project so it's just 'airing out' before I mask and paint the underside, then decal. I have an interior for it and it will become a trailer for the doodle bug when completed.

I did the same with the diner, replacing the grabs with wire. I added Tichy stirups to replace broken ones. The previous owner added an extra kitchen door to make it more like a CNR prototype so that's what it will be.

It's sitting in primer and will later be painted in CNR green
Finally my two lightweight cars

I trimmed the end skirts off and drilled holes for the grabs. I'll be adding the grabs after the paint since I'll be painting these in CN's post 54' paint scheme and will have to mask the sides. Since the skirts are removed I had to add the steps the are behind them. I salvaged the steps from an old Bachmann caboose.

This is the follow up video to my previous "Railfanning at Kings Port". Each vid follows action on one side of my layout. This one focuses on West Mill with the Float Yard, Empire Grain and trains coming out of the tunnel on the north side of town. Trains passing, trains switching, and a little bit of humor.

Hi guys , Athern HO Big Boy circa 2005 manufacturer , I am seeking advice - as I took the loco from the box the front engine fell out , I managed to clip it back and now the wheels lock and the valve gear is in the wrong position ,
question is do the engine simply pull out like some diesel loco trucks ?
I dont want to pull the engine (the 4-8-0 bit !) if it is held by the screws on the loco chassis .

How about a little abandoned bridge action this morning? It was a little foggy this morning and two of the shots were taken directly into the sun but diffused by the fog which made for some interesting lighting.

This is a new twist.

I go along with the logos, but this looks like there will now be licensing fees for models and photographs and videos that are sold.

Fresh from the paint shop,first official Z scale Grande Valley Railway locomotive.Loco is a AZL GP38-2.Paint is Krylon "Fusion" burgundy gloss.Road number is subject to change.



Some cylindrical grain hoppers to be.I ordered the decals yesterday.These will be Rail Net cars.



Two flatcars I am working on.The one on the right was Western Pacific is now the Watervliet & Portage another shortline railroad owned by Midwest Trainsportation Systems.

Model needs color and lettering, a little weathering yet, and then it will be ready for use.

My son who knows absolutely nothing about model railroading somehow found a Bachmann 2-6-0 and gave it to me for a gift. It is a sound equipped DCC locomotive. I still operate DC only.
He was aware that I do like smaller steam locomotives and got it from somewhere. The detail is decent and it is a very smooth running locomotive, but I did find out that it was a wimp on my 2 percent grades, capable of perhaps 5 cars. I guess I could use it in one of the yards as a switcher but then tried it out in front of a couple of passenger cars. It did manage to pull the grade and nw has a new job.

The little guy is a sound and DCC equipped locomotive, but operating it DC many sound functions were pre progeammed. Needless to day I have no control at all of the sound, but it is an interesting locomotive. Here is a VIDEO of a short passenger run. It is in 1080p.
