I recently got a good deal on a Rail-to-Road Aggregate Transfer 933-4036 Walthers kit, it was fairly priced and since I am trying to decided in which direction my physical layout is going I thought this would make nice busy work to make a small point-point layout. I am kinda odd in the fact I like to have what I model somewhat off a real railroad, location, or business. Its not that I am not creative enough to come up with my own ideas but I like to have things to base them off. So needless to say if anyone can point me in the direction of a modern one that could be useful to model I would be very thankful. I like East Coast railroads, specifically New England, but I am not picky when it comes to this project. I would also like if the line services a warehouse to add a little depth but doesn't have to be. I am mostly focused on finding the aggregate transfer. Thanks for the help!

the whole building is built on a tilt, it has complete wall stud details, roof trusses, peel and stick door, windows and trim. the walls have the siding laser cut into them and come with nail holes. even the window glazing is precracked. This should be a fun build, hope you follow along.

Went back to early 1980 when Conrail was doing the switching along Dock Street. A Conrail GP7 makes a pick up at General Foods.

Lonard Nimoy passed away this morning from COPD. While I'm not a die hard Trekkie, I do appreciate it's value to TV and pop culture as well as the ideas that led to future gadgets (flip & smart phones, body scanning, etc). It must be weird to be an icon to those who were fans of the show and those who were not. I wonder if Big Bang Theory will do a tribute.

Yesterday I spent a good while getting all my e-mags ready for the layout in the new building. Since they go under the track, they have to go in ...

But when I click the link, I get this:
Text...... then a circle with a line through it telling me I am not authorized to see this image.

If this is a private email, then I would have thought I would not be able to see the text, but I can see the text, just not the image.

Is there a way I can view the images in this thread? From the text, it sounds like this fella has the answers to my questions.

N scale layout on a door .
A couple of years ago I built a Roundhouse , it was two big , 20 road , so it got reduced to 5 road - this was around a Atlas turntable - another mistake as bigger locos turned up .
The lay out was built but with some bad track laying - it was a first effort ! Now moving on it was decided to lift the offending Peco code 80 and relay with a set from Kato in the form of their V11 set with double banked corner track . The high speed running will keep the grand kids ammussed
in future postings there will be plenty of photo's .

For sometime now when I can't sleep or not working on my own layout,I come to Big Blue and check out other modelers layouts or projects and after scrapping my jaw off the
floor,all I can say is OMG!!!
The degree of planning,construction,modeling skills and all other facets of model railroading shown in both layouts and individual projects is simply awe inspiring.
I have seen pictures taken of a layout and I have to say to myself "wow,that looks so real" and then realize that it is a model . But that just shows me the degree of modeling skill
involved in achieving this.
What I have also noticed is this-virtually every modeler excels in one or more aspects of the hobby, be it track work,scenery,structure building detail work on motive power and rolling stock.
The one thing I try not to do is to compare my layout to other layouts. To my way of thinking every layout is unique and for me to try and compare my layout to another would be
fruitless.
I guess the bottom line here is this-all you modelers deserve a lot of credit for what you are creating. My hats off to all of you.

Here is how mine came to me, off Evilbay, and with no other accessories. If I remember right, I paid $45.


This is my goal, a loco sitting at Pennsylvania Railroad Museum, Strasburg PA.:


I took it apart and started painting. Here's after some flat black:


I painted the front grey, but I didn't get it dark enough:


I just laid some new darker grey on but have not taken new pictures yet. I will soon, and will do some details on the backhead, and then will update this.

I will be doing a "looking back" blog covering the 60 years I been in the hobby..I will include my adventures,misadventures,mistakes made, some club,railfan events and my personal thoughts..

60 years is a long time to be in a hobby and where to start isn't a easy question to answer. I suppose I could start with my mentor but,I shall leave Dad for another installment.

I will mention I come from a family of railroaders that includes both Grandfathers,my Dad,all his brothers,and my uncles on my Mother's side.My Mom worked as a clerk typist and a aunt worked as a secretary and as many of you know after graduating high school I followed the family tradition and hired out on the PRR.

One of the biggest influences on me was the Columbus Model Railroad Club that was located in the basement of the A & P store on the corner of Rich and Third streets.This store building started life as a interurban station.

I started visiting this club in 1960 and would return every "visitor night" which was the second Tuesday of the month..After several visits I was allowed to run trains across the layout..I was hooked and of course being 12 years old I was to young to join by 4 years...I suppose they got tired of seeing me as a visitor because at the age of 15 I was handed a membership application- around 10 months before my 16th birthday.

Now I turn to a place that I went every Saturday morning without fail..Frank P. Hall Hardware store 185 S. High Street. You see in the basement was a well stocked hobby shop and a gathering point for the faithful every Saturday morning since that is when Charlie Lewis (the owner) would reveal new models..There was lots to see and the discussions on model projects and layout progress was the highlight.Young modelers was most welcome to join the conversation. I kinda wish I could revisit one of those Saturdays.

I must mention back then my mode of transportation was my Schwinn bicycle or a city bus-some times a trackless trolley.
