  Where Would You Go???
Posted by: scubadude - 02-24-2015, 07:53 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (17)

One of my longtime Divemasters is a Southwest pilot and he gave me a voucher for anywhere SW flies..... I'm Thinking about taking a 48 hr dash somewhere for a quick railfanning trip with my new way cool camera....

I'll leave it up to you guys......If you could pick up and go to the best trainspot in the US (or at least where Southwest Airlines goes) where would you go???

This is your call...we'll put together 2 or 3 top spots, vote and I'll go....

Only rules.
Has to be within a reasonable rent car distance from airport
I have to complete travel by March 4..very little time
I can only stay one night
Southwest Airlines only

Anybody want to meet me?

  Need help editing signature
Posted by: River Witch 14 - 02-24-2015, 04:14 AM - Forum: Forum Problems and Requests - Replies (12)

Recently I designed a logo for my layout. I uploaded it to photobucket but when I try to insert it into my signature the image is huge with a large white background.
I have re-sized and cropped it a few times but it still won't transfer properly.
Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get this right?
Thanks

  Excessive dirt
Posted by: faraway - 02-21-2015, 04:41 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (15)

Several month ago (mid 2013?) happened something very unusual to my layout. Most of the wheels collected excessive dirt.
The top photo shows how the dirt sticks like a rubber tire on the wheel. The black mountain on the lower photo is the dirt of that one wheel removed with a small screw driver. The dirt is very robust. I use a rotary brass brush in my Dremel to clean the wheels.
I cleaned lots of wheels and the rails and the excessive amount of dirt never returned.
The layout is a home office room in a condominium in the 4.th floor. There are no pets etc. The floor is mostly parquet flooring with only very few small rugs. Do you have any clue what may have happened?

I must have forgotten to clean some cars but stored them away. I found them today when I changed the layout theme and had my "fun" cleaning them too.

I found you guys! I was with The Gauge back in 2002 - 2003, then you disappeared. Been looking all over for The Gauge family for years. Nice to be back home.

  Lighthouse Railroad Photos
Posted by: scribbelt - 02-18-2015, 10:13 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (35)

Hello, as promised here are a few photos of the structures and other other objects of interest on my layout.
I have quite a few photos so I will not put them all in one post.

Firstly Some trackside structures (Walthers).
Secondly Photos of my first time putting together a resin kit; It's a Lobster boat from Seaport Models.
Thirdly A photo of my layout (12x13) as of Feb 2015, as you can see no landscaping has been done because the layout will be moved to another part of the basement in a few years.

I have so much more to learn so any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Thank you

  Gear lubrication question
Posted by: River Witch 14 - 02-18-2015, 02:43 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (6)

Recently I replaced the wheels on my older Athearn BB diesels with nickle silver wheels in an attempt to eliminate wheel sparking.
After I replaced the wheels I hit them with a small shot of powdered graphite. As I began to running the diesels with the new wheel sets I noticed
that they were a little bit louder than before.
Should I have used a different lubricant?
