Looking for pre made Fast Tracks Turnouts... 9 of them
Posted by: SSWUPinSA - 11-03-2014, 07:01 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - No Replies

Anyone have a lead to someone making and selling code 40 or 55 Fast Track turnouts using their jgs for #8 or #10. I want to construct a N-Scale ISL and would like to use code 40 ME track but cannot justify the price of buying a FT Jig for $210 when I only need 9 turnouts...

  WPF 10/31 to 11/7

little late start on the Photo thread this week. So here we go....
I grabbed a bunch of shots of the interior of the ARHS FA-2 during our work session today. Along with help from the Delaware Lackawanna railroad we will be rebuilding this former LIRR unit back into a working locomotive..

We striped the cab so that new equipment could be installed and the floor replaced.

That tall box in front of the fireman's position is a refrigerator. A nice amenity that ALCO had installed in this unit, we will be relocating it to the nose section.

Here's a shot on the 1600 HP power plant from the main electrical cabinet looking towards the rear of the locomotive.

There goes the control stand.

The last shot is from the rear of the unit looking forward. that tall cylinder is the driveshaft for the roof top fan . It's mechanically driven through a gearbox from the prime mover.

  Truck to Rail Ballast Transfer
Posted by: bsmall - 11-02-2014, 10:12 AM - Forum: Industries Along The Rails - Replies (4)

Cargil is building a new canola crushing facility near Camrose, Alberta that will be serviced from both CNR and CPR. The contractor doing the track laying is using a couple of hopper cars and a trackmobile to do the ballast work. The interesting thing is they are trucking the ballast in and using a big front-end loader to load the ballast-cars. The rock is first dumped in a loading area near the track. The wheel loader scoops it and then drives up a short dirt ramp that has been built up to the track to give loader more working height over the hopper car. Maybe this is a common working arrangement but I've never seen it done before and thought it would make a great scene on a layout.

Help needed for prototype based switching layout
Posted by: wsor4490uk - 11-02-2014, 05:08 AM - Forum: Layouts - Replies (9)

Okay I'm in that searching for a new layout mode.
I need some thinking outside the box.

After playing around with some British and French stuff I'm back in US mode

It needs to be a prototype based switching layout based on the Florida Central group of railroads and needs to work as an exhibition/fremo/shed layout

It can be straight / L shaped or any other shape that fits the space which is 9'7" x 7'x7" or 2921 mm by 2311mm

This does not need to include the fiddleyard/staging area

I like the following areas
4248–4380 US Highway 17 N
Bartow, FL 33830
United States

And this
89–313 Hennis Rd
Winter Garden, FL 34787
United States

Together with this area

830 Klondike St
Winter Garden, FL 34787-3225
United States

But I can't seem to work out a track plan to suit
Any ideas would be gratefully received

Does anybody know anything about the Turners Falls Branch? Was this a Caboose shove move. Who did the branch serve?
