Pending Athearn GP7u - minimum radius
Posted by: jonte - 04-24-2014, 10:02 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (2)

Hi,

I'm considering ordering the latest Athearn GP7u due for release late 2014/early 2015.

However, amongst the accompanying notes on the website of the model shop (in the UK) from whom I intend to make my purchase, I note that it states a minimum radius for the loco of 18 inches. The problem I have is that the ovals of track at each end of my layout are 15 inches each, so I was wondering whether any members out there could advise e.g. perhaps they already have another model from the Genesis range that currently negotiates tight curves such as mine?

Incidentally, the frames of my Bachmann 38-2 have no problems on the 15 inch curves.

Hoping and trusting I've placed this in the right section of the forum, and thanks in anticipation,

jonte

Pure Entertainment. The Singing Nun from The Voice in Italy
Posted by: Mike Kieran - 04-23-2014, 09:58 AM - Forum: Lower Berth - Replies (2)

This singer is a real Nun. When you get to the YouTube window, click the CC (Closed Caption) setting to English so that you can get the translation. I'm not religious, but if I had nuns like this, I would have not minded Catholic School or getting whacked with the ruler so much. What an amazing talent she has.

  railbars
Posted by: sailormatlac - 04-22-2014, 07:30 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (15)

Hi,

I'm currently adding railbars to my switching layout module. I'm using Detail West code 83 railbars on PECO code 83. So far, so good. BUT, I'm seriously thinking about adding railbar INSIDE the rails and not only outside. I've tested the clearance with various cars and locomotives on a piece of track. I didn't see any problem with wheels hitting the rail bar. RP25 profile wheels clear the railbar just fine, and thus, I'm starting to suspect the accepted fact you shouldn't put railbars inside the rails is again one of those unverified facts handed down over the Internet. 357

That said, before going crazy and gluing tons of railbars by mistake 35 , I'd like to know if any people here tried this and what did they find?

Matt

Layout Tour #41 Is Coming – Sunday, May 4 (Calif. Central Co
Posted by: thecitrusbelt - 04-22-2014, 05:20 PM - Forum: Tours, Events and Shows - No Replies

Model Railroads of Southern California’s forty-first layout tour takes place on Sunday, May 4.

This will be a self-guided tour of seventeen layouts at fourteen locations in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Two layouts are appearing for the first time on our tour program: Terry Taylor’s HO scale AT&SF Railway Company and Robin White’s N scale Oceano Model Railroad. In addition, Jeff Parker will be giving tours of the Central Valley Model Works shops, which are co-located with his layout.

Altogether there will be nine HO scale layouts, two N scale layouts and six garden railroads.

This is a free event and you may bring relatives and friends. The basic information for this tour is displayed below. If you would like layout descriptions and a tour map showing the general locations of all layouts, please e-mail me OFF LIST at: <!-- e --><a href="mailto:chiefbobbb@verizon.net">chiefbobbb@verizon.net</a><!-- e -->

  Model Power Out of Business
Posted by: Green_Elite_Cab - 04-22-2014, 01:17 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (21)

It looks like Model power has sunk.

Check out the home-page. Its kinda surprising, but then how many people are out buying the cheap toy-train style cars and locomotives they sold? Even if they are, the markets is probably saturated with older ones for almost nothing.

3rd ops video: The Steel Job
Posted by: Ralph - 04-20-2014, 04:51 PM - Forum: Strictly Rail Operations - Replies (4)

I got into a filming frenzy Saturday while it was gloomy here (beautiful in MN today though!!!) and created this 3rd ops video. It shows one of the half hour to an hour scenarios I can do on the layout when I don't feel like running a full operations sequence. This is the "steel job"; picking up and setting out cars in KP Steel's storage yard. Sound effects provided by iPod recordings of railroad sound albums.
