Here is a material transfer car I been working on for a while. I still have to add lights and paint it. It started out as a Roundhouse Rapid discharge hopper. I extended the frame to add the control cab and a motor compartment. One of these days I plan on powering it, but as of now it is a good addition to my steel mill.

My wife and I bought a slightly used Mazda3 almost exactly one year ago. It was a 2012 and had low mileage (26,000 km). We have an extended 7-year warranty on it. The car runs well and we really like it.

My question is -- should I get all of its servicing done at our Mazda dealer? If we got it done elsewhere (i.e. at my local garage which charges lower fees), would it invalidate our warranty? As far as I can tell, it wouldn't, but I thought I'd ask what other Big Blue members do in these situations, as I've received good car advice in the past!

I took our Mazda3 in today for its 48,000 km servicing -- check/lubricate brakes, rotate & align tires, etc. -- and I'm quite sure that I'm paying much more to have the work done there as opposed our small garage. I'm seriously considering the latter.

NJ Transit ALP44 #4405 Pulls away from the special fairgrounds spur, carrying weary amusement park visitors towards home. The future of the fair grounds special is in doubt as the the fairgrounds may soon be relocated elsewhere.



Cab Car 5150 has seen better days as it, along with #4405, approach retirement. In reality, these locomotives built in the early 1990s have already in storage for a couple years and are likely doomed to scrap, and the Comet II Cabs have been long gone. Their life span has been surprisingly short, considering they are supposed to be upgraded AEM7s, many of which are still running even today from as early as 1979-80!

My new layout is not going to be a roundy-roundy but a dogbone. It will probably have 3 terminal stations that attach to both tracks. The one that's in now has a double junction (with additional double slip switch!). I plan to make the exit track an X-section, picking up feed from either the mainline or the station track as required.
Now, is there any better way to do this? It looks as if exiting trains will have to stop on the mainline while I change the switch back and then change the direction switch.
Is there a good way to wire a dogbone so that its clear what is happening with the direction controls?
And should I abandon the common-rail wiring?
