Hi,

Just came across this forum pretty much by accident and figured I would check it out. You can never get too much info on model railroading. I've been a model railroader as long as I can remember. Just started a new HO layout a little more than a year ago. It's set in the fictional Knox Valley area of northern Maine in the late 50's and 60's. Pictures available at my website - http://www.mainetrains.webs.com/ - I try to keep it current but that doesn't always work out.
I'll be looking forward to learning more about this forum as time goes on.

I started to work on the area where the foundry is gonna live, so naturally I had to move it out of the way. As I often do, I just moved it to some other place on the layout and go about my business. When I finished working on the area (prepping the "ground" for cover and such...) I clean up after me, and sit down to contemplate the layout...I look over to where the foundry is sitting...and I'm floored..!! It looks GORGEOUS just where it's sitting...









Now, since this is the roundhouse area, it sure isn't going to stay there...But...I'm now thinking of building the roundhouse not as originally planned....



but with a sheetmetal structure....

What do you guys think..??

I have a pair of these boxcars I probably bought in the late 1990s. While running them tonight, I noticed the wheels are tiny - much smaller than the 33" wheels on my other boxcars. I haven't pulled out the scale ruler yet, but my guess is they are 30" or possibly even 28" wheelsets. Is this correct for this car?

My wife has just left for a trip to her native England for 12 days. So I'm at home looking after our two young sons on my own!

To cope, I'm taking a few days off work so I'll be able to have some personal "down time" as well. As a result, I've been able to expand my small 3x5 (British 00, similar to HO) layout slightly by adding a fiddle yard. It's now basically a 3x6' layout.

So while I'm a little stressed looking after the boys, I'm also trying to relax by having some hours to myself (i.e. when the boys are at school) to work on my layout. It's only times like this when I can get a clear, uninterrupted 3-4 hours of layout work.

Also, the new steam loco, Tornado, is making a guest appearance at the heritage railway near my wife's hometown, so I've asked her to visit it this weekend and take lots of pics (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.watercressline.co.uk/">http://www.watercressline.co.uk/</a><!-- m -->).

Well took a bit of a ride today up to my LHS about 50 plus miles or so one way. Haven't been up there in a while and wanted to pick up a some grade crossings from Blair Line that he had ordered for me a while back and I figured I might as well pick up a few other things while I was up there. So I figured well grade crossings need roads right. On the section that am working on I was planning on using Walthers Asphalt street system as I had used it before at the club and it worked out pretty well. So he didn't have the Walthers items but I did pick up a few rolls of this stuff called Mini Highways by Leisure Time Products. Well I don't know what I was thinking but they sure looked better in the package then they did after I opened them up and roll em out. Almost a light weight roofing felt with some yellow lines painted on them. The may work some where lese but not for my city scene so I was wonder what do you guys do for roads and streets?
