I just noticed this on my layout.  I have no idea how it got there.

  How's Larry/ Brakie?
Posted by: JaBear - 11-28-2020, 03:05 AM - Forum: Hobo's Camp - Replies (23)

It was mentioned a while back on the other forum who allows me to participate, that we haven't seen Larry / Brakie since late September. I was wondering as he's a moderator here, if anyone knows if he's OK?
Cheers, the Bear.

  Carl ARENDT Mine Company
Posted by: franckcombe - 11-23-2020, 11:24 AM - Forum: Narrow Gauge, Logging and Mining - Replies (2)

I just finished my previous layout Lucky Luke.  I want to continue with another project at on 30 scale called Carl ARENDT Mine Company. 10 years ago I started a layout at on30 scale but I never finished it. So I will do it differently this time.
It's called Carl ARENDT, because Carl ARENDT was a remarkable man that I appreciated a lot. The second reason is that I add a specific constraint typical of  Carl ARENDT’s spirit. My layout will have only 10 cm deep (4 inches). The reason of this constraint was inspired me by a discussion with my friends Erwan Josset and François Fontana (editor-in-chief of a narrow gauge magazine) that proposes as a challenge to create a layout of 10 cm deep. I doodle a lot of and I find one solution by creating a cross-section of a mining network. There are also two advantages of this size: a quick realization and also it could easily store in my flat during the building.
I chose to do this at on30 for the atmosphere because if I do it at hoe scale it will be too small. It will be an US mine.

This is the blue print (overall dimension 120 cm by  60 cm by 10 cm  (130 inches  by  24 inches by 4 inches)

And please find 2 photos that will inspire the layout. These photos doesn’t belonging to me but I'm not able to find the owner, so if you are the owner of these photos please contact me.

  Anyone for a Nov/Dec chat??
Posted by: ezdays - 11-18-2020, 08:33 AM - Forum: The Video Camp - Replies (53)

We are a week away from thanksgiving here in the US, so I would think next Thursday and Friday are out for another video chat. We could do one earlier in the week if it works for enough people, or we could do it any day the following week. Anyone have any thoughts, post them here.

BTW, Zoom apparently is suspending their 40 minute time limit for the holidays, so no need to change venues right now.

  Nelson and Kaslo British Columbia
Posted by: cnrglen - 11-18-2020, 07:47 AM - Forum: Canada Rails - Replies (9)

This past weekend I spent in Nelson, BC with a side trip to Kaslo. I thought I might share some pictures if people are interested.

Nelson still has it's very handsome CPR train station. It's now their visitor information center.  It would be a bit large to model it on an average layout but you could compress it and still get the same feel.
And outside the station:

One of the last Fairbanks-Morse H16-44 and from my understanding the last CFA16-4, A C-liner. This was one of my reasons for travelling to Nelson. I always wanted to see one of these up close.
I'll post more photos in my next post.

  Ontario Southland Railway
Posted by: cn nutbar - 11-15-2020, 11:43 AM - Forum: Canada Rails - Replies (4)

The Ontario Southland Railway is an active short-line railroad located in south-western Ontario approximately an hour and a half from my hometown. The main shop is located in Salford Ontario. It's a rail-fans dream road as the motive power for the OSR consists of many first generation diesels including F9 cab units,GP7's,SW1200 RS switchers and many MLW/ALCO models. The shop is like a museum and the staff have always been very receptive to the fans taking photos.Bruce,Wayne and I visited the site around a year ago and took many pictures.I recently came across an un-named photographer's picture of one of the road's SW1200RS that received a very attractive paint job.

On November 14, 2020 Canadian National Railway 6167 was moved from its home by the Guelph Central Station to John Galt park, to make way for the expansion of the GO train station.I wish I had been in Guelph to witness the move but I found these pictures capturing the action.
