Once I finish up on a few things I'm doing , I'd like to scratch a storage type shed .....at first I was thinking quonset hut but then saw a nicely modeled swayback building . I'm wondering about the roof , do you break the main roof beam before proceeding or perhaps soak the wood and gently bend it ?.....or ?

I got an intermountain CSX 5277 cubic foot boxcar that I'm going to make appear more prototypical. Intermountain cars are already highly detailed, this is more of a factory scheme correction project. The model has the road number stretching across 3 side panels when it should be 2. I removed the factory decals, applied microscale decals and "reflective" stripes. It's a pretty simple fix to make the model look more prototypical. I was going to renumber it to the boxcar in the photo but didn't want to redecal the ends of the car. It'll also get Athearn Genesis roller bearing trucks, Sergent couplers and pacific western magnetic brake lines. I have about 23 boxcars and about 15 so far are equipped with the Athearn trucks, Sergent couplers and magnetic brake lines. Just waiting on the coupler delivery.

Its 4:12 AM local time and just finished dealing with the police. At 2.30 I was woken by alarms going off in the yard and found a thief in the yard. Called police and it took him half an hour to arrive. Searched the yard but could not find any sign of any buildings being broken into. Will check more in the morning when its light out. I am still shaking and there is no way I am getting back to sleep for a while. Forty years ago you seldom heard of this but today you hear of at leased one every week. The world has become a vary scary place. Hoping you all stay safe.

Anyone know where I can get chain CHEAP for this HO Tichy jib crane kit I've had sitting around for years ....didn't realize the chain didn't come with the kit . Does cheapo costume jewelry do the trick ?

I have 4 CSX projects in the works. 2 of them will be repeat projects I posted a few months ago but I had to sell them, so I'm going to restart and complete them. The first one I'm working on is a GP38-2 #2738. I'm using a Proto 2000 model and will attempt to add as much details to match the real thing as possible minus any body/shell modifications. So far I've added a round vent to the nose and painted it grey, painted over the top right corner of the "C" in CSX on the hood, added pilot details (plows & hoses), moved the grab irons to the conductors side of the nose (will be adding a signal box) and I'm working on removing the numbers on the engineers side cab so I can add a vent and off center the numbers.

Well, I haven't posted for a while, but I have done some new things. For the first time in a long time, I've weathered some of my engines! I figured some of those Conrail Patch Jobs shouldn't look so clean!

GP30 #2168 was the first to get the dirt. I might have put it on a little heavier than the prototype, but its not bad. before this, it looked way too "bright" for an engine that has been around! I painted the underframe grimy black, and then used weathering powders on the body and trucks. I also tried to put a wash on the engine before hand, but I didn't really get noticeable results.





Next on the list is my newest paint job, Former Reading Company, now Conrail GP35 #3640! This engine was unique in that it was the only GP35 to get the "All Green" Reading company paint. I still need to dull-cote it a little (probably should have done that before weathering, but i can always reapply what goes away). Still, I'm very happy with how it came out. Trying to replicated the worn-out patch look was definitely a little scary. Had to make it look blotchy without making it look too painted on!







A little bit of a brighter shot prior to my weathering attempts. I tried to make the CR patch faded out just like the photograph. In some pictures, its barely visible. I think #3640 got a blue paint job by late 1980, so this patch wasn't long lived. I used the Mount Vernon Shops CR patch decals, as they come with the stencil lines visible in some patch jobs.







They look good together under my Reading Company catenary, that is for sure! I plan to run these for the last few weekends of my club's open house.



I also started to weather the body of GP18 #7499, but I haven't gotten around to the trucks yet.



Weathering is going to have to be the new skill I pick up. To much of my "old" conrail stuff should probably be a little more beat up, if only subtly so.

Here are a few pics of my British N scale layout that I started about a year ago. It's supposed to be a GWR layout, so maybe just turn a blind eye to the SR and LMS trains there. Open to feedback and advice.
