Missed the power on Conrails TV-71, but caught the lead power on WPMA-21 as they both made their way thru Chestnut Neck.

James May urges nation to 'save Hornby'
Posted by: railohio - 02-16-2016, 09:11 AM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (6)

Quote:James May urges nation to 'save Hornby' as shares plunge 62%
Well-known producer of railway sets, Airfix kits and Corgi cars issues third profit warning in five months

However, Hornby has suffered a torrid period in the last few years due to falling sales, problems with suppliers in China, and disruption from upgrading its computer and stock management systems. The Kent-based company warned on Wednesday that its problems had worsened significantly since the start of the year. Sales of Hornby products fell in January in the UK and the company has also discovered that it needs to write £1m from the value of its stock.

These factors mean that Hornby is now expecting to record an underlying pretax loss of between £5.5m and £6m for its financial year, far larger than expected, and there is a risk that the company will breach banking covenants in March. If it does so, there is a risk that Barclays, its bank, could call in the debt, threatening the company with collapse. Hornby has roughly £9m of net debt, all with Barclays.

  SIlk Road Route Open AGain!
Posted by: MountainMan - 02-15-2016, 09:00 AM - Forum: Upper Berth - No Replies

Today, China and Iran announced that a Chinese train had arrived in Iran to celebrate the re-opening of the Silk Road route between those two nations and to herald a new trade and (presumably) passenger service.

This is quite interesting given the far more common use of air carriers these days, and calls into question exactly what these two nations might be shipping back and forth.

  Anyone try Citristrip ?
Posted by: e-paw - 02-14-2016, 04:53 PM - Forum: Tips and Tricks - Replies (1)

I picked this up at the local hardware store yesterday because I was trying the strip the paint from a brass 2-10-2 and was having no luck.
I tried rubbing alcohol, Pine soil, and Easy lift off and it barely did anything. This paint was thick and gooey. I sprayed the model , let it set overnight, scrubbed it with an old toothbrush and could see all kinds of details that I didn't know were there. The old paint came right off. I don't know how it would work on plastic models but for brass and cast,,, I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

As you can see she needs some work (I think someone dropped it), but that's for another day

one of the Roundhouse 3-in-1 Craft Kits. This one takes quite a bit of styrene from the scrap box. More pictures and details here, http://nvrr49.blogspot.com/2016/02/jorda...-cars.html
