How do you back up your photo files?
Posted by: bdw9535 - 01-07-2015, 10:55 AM - Forum: Shutterbug area - Replies (12)

Recently my external hard drive stopped working and took it in to see if it could be repaired. Was informed today that it had been corrupted and that the data could not be retrieved. This contained the last six years of photos that I had taken. I have some that are still on my computer but the majority are lost. Before I got the external hard drive I would back up the files on CD's but was always getting duplication of photos and stopped doing that. My question is what do you do to back up your photo files?

New Cutter, for the Seaport Village
Posted by: Sumpter250 - 01-06-2015, 12:08 PM - Forum: Sumpter250 - Replies (30)

This will be the fourth Sailing Vessel I have built using the hulls of this kit. As a Clipper Ship it leaves far too much to be desired, but as a source of "quick and easy" "waterline hulls", it has some intrinsic value.

Here, from back to front, The kit parts in the box that will not be used.
The part of the hull removed to make it a "waterline" model
The modified ( widened ) upper part of the hull, which is all I am using ( until I find a use for the rest of the junk in the box )

Port side view of the hull.

The "new" hull looking forward. The "white" part of the transom, is how much "Beam" was added to the kit hull, to make this small coastal freight hauling Cutter.

  Abandoned farm house
Posted by: ak-milw - 01-05-2015, 07:01 PM - Forum: Scratchbuilding and kitbashing - All Scales - Replies (16)

I finished the house for my abandoned farm scene. It is a Carolina Craftsmans kit, I added the front porch, the back addition and the stone foundation.

This thread is not getting much play. There used to be more activity. I don't want to be a hog, but I'll get the ball rolling with a shot from today. I took this picture from the van with the window down briefly. The rain was really coming down and supposed to be snow starting tomorrow.

  Help matching CSAO ballast color
Posted by: Engfanuk - 01-03-2015, 02:12 PM - Forum: Scenery details - Replies (20)

Hi guys, I could do with some help in matching ballast color for my 2007 CSAO south New Jersey proto-freelance layout.

I have some Arizona Rock CSX/Southern Pacific/Wabash ballast but I think it's too salt and pepper. To my eyes the target color is darker, more even with a slight blue tone.

Here is a very neat and tidy example photo of what I'm aiming for as a base -

However most of my track will be overgrown and less tidy -

I had planned on mixing Arizona Rock Earth with the ballast and applying static grass over that. But is till need the base ballast.

I'd like to stick with Arizona Rock products but it's a challenge to match colors without photos and even then it's different when applied on a layout than in a bag.

Can anyone help?

Warm regards,

Steve.

  2015 Big Blue NASCAR Racin'
Posted by: eightyeightfan1 - 01-02-2015, 09:24 PM - Forum: Lower Berth - Replies (135)

Happy New Year everyone!

It's almost time! The NASCAR 2015 season is about to began.
Yeah...I know...It's a month and a half til the Daytona 500 February 22, but I figured I'd post early, just to give people some time.
And maybe pick up a couple others that might be interested in joining this years festivities.

This is how it works:
1. Pick three drivers for your team. There is no restrictions in the drivers, so someone else can have the same drivers as you do.
2. Post your picks here. Drivers locked in February 22 at 12:00pm.
3. You are allowed three driver changes during the season. Say one of your drivers breaks his legs and is out the season, or he's not performing up to expectations, you can make a change. Two drivers changed at one time during the season equals two driver changes. And if you fire all three drivers, and pick three more. You are not allowed anymore driver changes. So choose wisely.
4. Points awarded per NASCAR point system through the whole season. None of that Chase crap that happened last year. Point races only.
5. Positions determined by the position your drivers finished, with the total points of all three drivers.
6 Tie breaker goes to the person who's team has the most wins. If both teams have the same amount of wins, a two headed coin will be used. If that doesn't work, both team managers will duel with pistols at 10 paces. Ok...Just kidding..We'll use a real coin.

So.Anyone interested post here. Plenty of time to think about who you want on your team.
