  Florida Highland Railroad
Posted by: wsor4490uk - 01-19-2015, 12:38 PM - Forum: Layouts - Replies (21)

Greeting all,
After a year of messing about in the shed its time to settle down and get a crack on with my permanent layout.

After a number of ideas were thrown about last year I have decided to stick with an end to end plan
I have left the windows at the front of the shed clear to make it feel as big as possible.

The layout will be set in central Florida, and will be based on the Pinsly group of Florida railroads but under the name of Florida Highland
The FHRR will use two locomotives to run their trains on the branch.
These will be from me ever growing group of CF7s

Here is a video of two of them in action.

For the track plan I have cherry picked a number of my favourite industries from the Florida Central railroad , these include

1- 84 Lumber (lumber loads in Boxcars, Centre-beam and Bulkhead flats)
2- Cemex Cement Supplies (100 ton 2 bay hoppers and ACF Center flow 2 bay hopper) ex Southdown
3- CMC Recycling (assorted gondolas)
4- Louis Dreyfus Citrus Inc (Trinity 64' Reefers)

Located off the layout
5- Plastic Tubing Industries (assorted tank cars) (Hazmat) Pushed up to gates and then PTI tractor comes and pulls them inside their compound

Track plan

Track laying will shortly start

  Track plan simplified
Posted by: River Witch 14 - 01-17-2015, 08:57 PM - Forum: Blogs - Replies (4)

Been sick all week and had lots of time on my hands so i decided to see what my plan would look like if I simplified it some.
In the first scenario using the original plan as a guide I removed both tracks at the food distributor and pallet factory making them both
truck served. Lumber is still brought in by rail and then transferred to trucks. I also removed the track just above the coal dealer track. I realize that with this
change I give up the use of boxcars and reefers at food dist.

In this next scenario,I left one food dist. track in place which lets me use boxcars and reefers and as described above the other tracks are still removed.

To tell you the truth,I like both changes and if I were to make one of them it would depend on if I wanted more or less switching, but the more I think about it I would probably opt for keeping the
food dist. rail served.
Just some ideas for possible changes. Would like to hear some of your thoughts. Popcornbeer

First laser cut structure kit for me
Posted by: AF350 - 01-17-2015, 07:34 PM - Forum: Blogs - Replies (40)

Hello all,

I will be assembling my first laser cut craftsman type structure kit.

I bought an O scale version from the NMRA division 6. It is a station that is still in existence in Grove city Ohio sw of Columbus. Will try to get some pics of the original station if I can as the historical society wants to move it to a new location.

Here are a few pics of the as yet unassembled kit and 2 pics of the prototype I found on line. I will up date as I progress.

  Laser Art kit, fallen barn

As a few folks know I scratchbuild or kitbash just about everything on my layout. I have had this kit put away for awhile because I new I was doing the abandoned farm scene and had to have this in it. It is a very nice kit, well designed and easy to build.

There are a bunch of pieces left to add when I get it on the layout.
