It's been kind of a strange winter in this part of the Great White North ........less than 1/2 inch the other day and that's been it . My neighbour cut his lawn a couple of days ago ! So it's shaping up to be a green Christmas here judging by the long range forecast .

Here are some pic's of a project i been working on. The co. is World Wide Grain they lease a spot in the the Dundee transload yard , they unload covered hopper cars into 20' containers to be shipped overseas . You can buy used ( Damaged ) containers for scrap value $$ & they made a building out of them. They dump into a pit in the building a blow it into the container to be driven to port Newark.

For those who might be interested, I just got my first TCS WOW decoder. I installed it and tried it this evening. With it as it came out of the packet It is fantastic in my opinion. Unless something happens as I mess with programing I will get more of them. I have a TCS KA in another locomotive and it is fantastic. I have some locomotives with older soundtraxx LC decoders that I think I might put KA decoders in and keep the LC sound.

Okie Dokie, here we are into December of 2013 already. No real biggie except that on the 17th of this month, Big Blue Train Forum will be five years old. We have had many photo and build challenges in this time for different themes. We’ve had weekly photo threads, and I don’t even have to mention what we’ve learned and the friends that we’ve made over these years because of these challenges and photo contests. Well, we have another photo contest for you all in celebration of our fifth anniversary. The idea is we want to see a photo with the number, “5” in it. We need you to have taken the picture, which can be of anything train related. It can be on an engine, a sign, a structure, a right-of-way or on anything else. It can be part of a layout a diorama, a single object or something full-scale, it doesn’t matter.

We normally don’t award prizes in our contests or challenges, but we will make an exception this time. The winner of this photo contest will get an official “Big Blue Train Forum” coffee mug. Because of this, Staff member’s photos will not be entered into the contest’s voting poll. They can, however, still post photos, but they will be excluded from the voting poll. The winner and the first two runner-ups will be awarded certificates.

One other twist, we have a few different “fifth anniversary” logos that we’ve created just for, well, our fifth anniversary. If one of these logos appears in the photo, that photo will be awarded one extra vote. If it appears on a piece of rolling stock, the photo will be awarded two extra votes at the end of the poll. You can download these logos from this thread.

Please bear in mind that this contest is all in fun, and we certainly don’t want to start any battles or hear any quibbling (as did happen in another forum that we’re aware of), just because there is a prize. A coffee mug isn’t worth losing friends over, that’s for sure.

The Rules:

1. You can enter any train-related photo that has the number “5” in it. The number can stand by itself or can also have zeros in it. No other numbers are allowed. For example, 5, 005, 500, 0505, 5500 are all acceptable. Even 5555 would be OK as long as it only has fives, or fives and zeros in it.
   
2. The numbers must be fully visible in the photo.
   
3. Post your picture or pictures in the thread titled, "Fifth anniversary photo contest". Multiple entries per person will be acceptable; each one will be individually entered in the voting poll. This thread here is reserved for comments or questions, please post your photos in the thread provided, otherwise we will either move it there or it won’t be counted in the voting poll.
   
4. Remember, as stated above, if you use one of our anniversary logos as they appear, they already have a “5” in them so no more is needed. Although more than one "5" in different places in your entry is acceptable but no other number (other than zero) can be showing anywhere (with the exception of the dates on some of our supplied logos).
   
5. This contest starts right now, and will run until January 1st. A poll will open after that date, so that we can pick a winner.

Please post your anniversary photo only in this thread. Thank you. If they are posted elsewhere, they won't be counted in the voting poll.

Also be sure to read the rules in this thread There is a prize to the winner. Not a big one, but it's all part of this anniversary celebration.

Here is a list of the logos that we've chosen to use during this anniversary celebration. We thought that they would be nice to use on your BB&G rolling stock or elsewhere on your layout. One of them is in B/W for those that can't print or make decals in color. You can capture these logos by right-clicking on it and selecting either "Copy Image" or "Save Image As..."Please contact me if you are having problems downloading these images, or need them in a different format. I can send you any one as a jpg, gif, bmp or even a png. They are big, but you should be able to re-size them with your photo editor.

I know these are pretty cheap details to buy, but sometimes we have some scraps laying around, or jut want to make something, or there is no LHS close by.

I took a piece of scrap brass tube and made some sacks. I simply used a scale ruler and diagonal cutters.

Just mark off the tube in appropriate scale increments, I used 18 scale inches, and then cut with the diagonal cutters. The cutters crush the end of the tube as it cuts. Be careful, the cut sacks tens to fly, so direct the cutters downward or into a box.

I glued them together in a small stack, and painted them with craft paint.

Sorry the photos aren't the best, I used an old point-and-shoot camera. Ambitious fold could probably try and simulate some kind of label or lettering on the sacks.

In Anderson Indiana, it is time for the Madison County Historical Society's Model Railroad exhibit. There is a 4x8 O scale traction, a 4x6 On30 layout, an S gauge 4x12 layout, an HO Ringling Bros - Barnum and Bailey circus train 3x15 layout, an HO 4x14 layout, an N scale 3.5x14 layout and a 8x8 O gauge Lionel layout.

In addition, there is a G gauge display, a 1/4 size mock up of a Baker Valve Gear setup, and photos upon almost all of the walls.

The December hours are M-W-F 10 to 4 and Saturdays 10 to 2. Closed December 25th.
