I bought some plastic repair epoxy at Ace Hardware (Ace brand) to glue some unknown type of plastic for a motor mount I was building. It's a two part epoxy that sets in about 5 minutes. In addition to being an epoxy that fills gaps, it also has a solvent that partially dissolves the plastic to create a strong bond. The epoxy sets up hard, and the bond between the pieces is very strong. I later used it to glue a metal motor to the plastic motor mount I had made, and it also created a good bond to the motor.

It's a useful product, and I think I may try it in the future when I need to glue larger plastic pieces to metal pieces where there is a larger bonding area. I haven't tried it on the derlin type plastic yet - but it may be a solution there, too. I could also see it useful in creating strong bonds when joining the walls of large plastic structures because it helps fill gaps.

The Banning Centennial Train Festival takes place this weekend, October 19th & 20th. Hours are 10:00 to 5:00 Saturday and 10:00 to 4:00 Sunday. The $5.00 admission includes all venues and children 12 and under are FREE! The admission is good for both days and parking is free.

Festival activities will include over 11,000 square feet of operating modular railroads, a children’s train ride, a railroad swap meet, hobby clinics, a model contest with displays, railroad vendor booths, exhibits featuring railroad history, model railroading and current public transit developments.

The bulk of these activities will take place at the Banning Community Center, 789 N. San Gorgonio Avenue. This is six blocks north of the downtown. This is the venue for the exhibitors and vendors, model clinics and some of the modular railroads. The model contest room is a few steps away.

The indoor swap meet runs from 8:00 to 12:00 (Saturday only) at LifePoint Church, 565 N. San Gorgonio Avenue. Thirty-two tables already have been sold.

Across the street from LifePoint Church is the Banning Schools Gym, the second venue for operating modular railroads.

Between the church and the Community Center is Repplier Park, the venue for food vendors and the children’s riding train.

At the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center, 127 N. San Gorgonio Avenue, Joe Warren will present a historical lecture on “The Impact of Trains on Banning,” on Saturday, at 7:00 p.m. This will cost an additional $5.00 (youth free) and includes dessert.

NYPD is expanding it's search for a 14 year old boy with Autism. It turns out he likes trains and his school is by the railroad yards for the Long Island and the New York & Atlantic Railroads. There's speculation that he may have boarded a train in one of these yards, either freight or passenger. Maybe we should keep our eyes and ears peeled for

I like having working couplers on my steam locomotive pilots - but the installation is never easy!

There's usually a problem with the hole in the pilot not being big enough, so I may have to cut or file away at a few details.

And then there is the "cowcatcher" interfering with the trip pin on the coupler. My options are to cut off all the trip pins (all cars have to have them cut off, too), or file away at the cowcatcher for clearance, or extend the coupler away from the pilot.

Now I finally get one that I think will be easy. The hole in the pilot is already the right size. And - it's a switcher pilot so no cowcatcher issues. But now the darned pilot truck hangs up on the coupler box! I'm not sure how to deal with this one. I may have to extend it from the pilot like I did on some other locos.

It's never easy.

This one involved a truck hitting a scenic train in West Virginia. The driver of the truck was killed.

You can't even imagine how many close calls I had with a 4 car train going 10 MPH or less. Truckers on cell phones, ladies in a hurry, even a school bus a couple times.

This is the fourth auction in the series that we’ve been presenting thru out the year. It is for a caboose as pictured below. It is one of the “Tracks Ahead” series offered by PBS. This car was generously donated by Mike Goad (Tyson Rayles) in anticipation that it will help in the fund raising effort that is need to support Big Blue. There is just one thing has been changed from the original, the BB&G logo has been added to make it even more of a collector’s car than it already was. A TA caboose is still available in limited quantities from PBS, but not like this one; this is truly a “one-off” car. This car, we hope, will become treasured and be a show of pride for your membership and support of the Big Blue Train Forums. The winning bidder of this car will receive, along with the car, a certificate of authenticity to document that it came from Big Blue. .

Now, let’s get started. We are offering this car to the highest bidder. Here are the bidding rules:

1. There is no minimum bid and no reserve, the highest bidder at the time the auction closes will get the car.
   
2. Please keep you bid raises in increments of at least fifty cents and preferably a dollar or more.
   
3. You can bid publicly by posting it in this thread. This thread is for bidding only; any comments or questions should be made in this thread or by PM to either ezdays or ngauger. Non-bid posts will be deleted from this thread.
   
4. If you want to enter an anonymous bid (just like the rich and famous do), you can PM either ezdays or ngauger and we will bid on your behalf, (we will post the bid amount, but keep your name confidential, just like at those big auction houses). You may also want to give us the maximum you would want to go and we’ll bid for you by adding one dollar above the last bid, up the maximum that you have set, again, just like Christie’s does for the big boys.
   
5. The auction will run for three weeks and will close at noon EST on November 3, at which time we will announce the winner and ship the car to them.
   
6. The successful bidder will pay all shipping costs. That cost is estimated to be around $5.00US.
